Gudbranson will play Friday against the Flames, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.

Gudbranson has apparently recovered enough from the upper body injury that kept him out of Thursday's game against the Canucks to suit up Friday against Calgary. His return couldn't have come at a better time for the Panthers, as Dmitry Kulikov will miss Friday's contest with the flu. Gudbranson has registered five points and 33 PIM through 35 games with the Panthers this season.

Gudbranson (upper body) will remain unavailable Thursday against the Canucks, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Gudbranson has been practicing with the team since Tuesday, but coach Gerard Gallant expressed a desire to give him some more time off to recover from the injury. Shane O'Brien will replace him on the Panthers' blue line for the third straight game.

Gudbranson (upper body) returned to practice Tuesday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.

The Panthers' next game won't come until Thursday in Vancouver, so with another practice Wednesday, Gudbranson doesn't appear in danger of missing any further time due to injury. The 23-year-old hasn't exhibited much growth offensively this season, providing just one goal and four assists over 35 games.

Gudbranson (upper body) is unlikely to play Sunday against the Capitals, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.

Gudbranson failed to get on the ice for Saturday's practice, which will probably prompt coach Gerard Gallant to sit him out for a second straight contest. Shane O'Brien is set to take his spot in the lineup.

Gudbranson will miss Friday's game against the Sabres with an upper-body injury, Craig Davis of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

Gudbranson's injury is the likely reason for the recall of Shane O'Brien on Friday, who will draw into the lineup in his place. His next chance to return will come Sunday against, but the team should provide an update prior to the game.

Gudbranson got on the scoresheet by adding a power-play assist in Thursday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Blue Jackets.

The assist was his third of the season and first point in seven games. Don't let the power-play assist fool you, Gudbranson only saw 1:36 minutes with the man advantage. Florida has plenty of options in front of Gudbranson so unless there are injuries, expect him to be limited throughout the season.

Gudbranson picked up a rare power play assist in Thursday's shootout win against the Sharks.

The assist was just his third point of the season (1G,2A), and his second power play assist. His career high in points is only nine so he is already one third of the way there, which isn't saying much. Gudbranson plays on the third defence pairing and last season racked up 114 PIM which was good enough for 20th in the league. So if you awarded for PIM, he should definitely be an option especially if he continues to see power play time to chip in the odd PP point.

Gudbranson had an active season debut Thursday against the Lightning, potting a goal on three shot attempts while picking up four penalty minutes.

Gudbranson's pedigree as a former top-three draft choice always makes him worth tracking, despite his rather tepid career production to date. However, defensemen often face notoriously long development curves, so it's certainly within Gudbranson's ability to come through with a breakout in 2014-15. That being said, his standing on the Panthers' third pairing could depress his minutes load, which would in turn hinder his opportunities to pile up points, hits and blocks.

The Florida Panthers have signed Erik Gudbranson to a two-year extension.

The financial terms of Gudbranson's agreement weren't immediately known. He had nine points and 114 penalty minutes in 65 games with the Panthers last season. "Erik is an important part of our young core of talented players who we are pleased to have signed," said Panthers GM Dale Tallon. "He is a big, strong and physical defenseman who is one of the building blocks for our team. We look forward to his continued development and his contributions to the South Florida community."

Erik Gudbranson scored a goal for Canada in a 3-2 overtime loss to France on Friday at the IIHF World Hockey Championships.

It was a go-ahead goal halfway through the third period that was set up by Colorado's Nathan McKinnon. Of course the French later tied the game and won it in overtime on goal by Pierre-Edouard Bellemare in a shootout.
