Brett Connolly has agreed to a one-year, two-way deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Connolly excelled in the minors last season with 21 goals and 57 points in 66 games. He only logged 11 contests with Tampa Bay though and averaged 12:01 minutes in those games. He's had a hard time living up to the strong start he had to his career, but he's still young and has plenty of upside. This deal offers him a chance to prove that and potentially get a more lucrative contract next summer.

Brett Connolly was bumped to the fourth line for Thursday's loss to San Jose.

The Lightning tried him out at center after Steve Stamkos was injured, but coach Jon Cooper did some line juggling that didn't benefit Connolly. His ice time dropped to 8:53 in the contest. He has just one goal in 11 games this campaign.

Brett Connolly was moved to center in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout win over Montreal.

He skated between Alex Killorn and Martin St. Louis on Tampa Bay's top line, with Steve Stamkos sidelined indefinitely by a broken tibia. Connolly logged 12:18 of ice time versus the Canadiens and he recorded two shots. He has only one goal in seven NHL games this year.

Coach Jon Cooper was happy to see Brett Connolly rewarded with the game-winning goal in Saturday's 4-2 win over the St. Louis Blues.

"He's got speed, he's got skill and he can put the puck in the net, so for him to get the game winner ... And I don't know what will happen in the future here, but I don't think that is the last goal Brett Connolly is going to score in the near future," Tampa Bay's bench boss said. "Sometimes you just have to get the monkey off your back. And he did it and usually when that happens, they usually start to come in bunches." Connolly hadn't scored in six AHL games and his previous two NHL appearances this year prior to Saturday's marker.

Brett Connolly has been called up by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

GM Steve Yzerman said the team has no plans to send anyone down and there doesn't appear to be any injuries on the club. "We're trying to find the right fits, the right line combinations," Yzerman said. Connolly has suited up in one game with the Bolts this season.

Brett Connolly was returned to the AHL on Sunday.

He suited up in one game with the Lightning after he was summoned from the minors and sat as a healthy scratch for another. Connolly should get plenty of playing time in the minors, but he'll be one of the first call ups again should injuries occur.

It wouldn't be if Brett Connolly heads back to the minors in the very near future.

Connolly was a healthy scratch on Saturday and Tampa Bay doesn't play again until Oct. 24. He was initially promoted as an insurance policy for Thursday's game because Martin St. Louis was dealing with a lower-body injury, but St. Louis and Connolly ended up participating in that contest. It will take some more time before Connolly firmly establishes himself in the NHL, but he has top-six potential.

Brett Connolly still played Thursday night even though Martin St. Louis was able to suit up.

He skated on the fourth line with Nate Thompson and B.J. Crombeen. It's unclear how long he'll stay up with the team, but for now he just wants to make the most out of his opportunity.

Brett Connolly was called up by the Tampa Bay Lightning Wednesday.

Martin St. Louis is listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury, so Connolly's presence on the roster suggests that the Lightning captain could sit out Thursday's contest versus Minnesota. Connolly had a strong training camp but he was sent down to the minors prior to the start of the regular season.
