Edmonton Oilers head amateur scout Stu MacGregor still has plenty of faith in the team's young core.

He said players the team relies on are just "21, 22, 23 years old, so some of those players are still learning the NHL." Taylor Hall is only 22, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is 21 and Nail Yakupov is 20. Jordan Eberle is just slightly older at 24 years of age. "These guys have been able to gain that experience early in their career and hopefully that will be an advantage in the end," MacGregor said. "It's been challenging for them and us to be able to try and produce these players slightly earlier than most." The Oilers have another high draft pick, at third overall, in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and it's believed that they are eyeing German forward Leon Draisaitl.

Taylor Hall is excited about the future of the Edmonton Oilers.

The Oilers have yet to make the playoffs during the four year career of Hall but there is optimism according to the young star. "I know I've stood here and said next year has to be the year and there were times this year when we struggled and I lay away at night wondering, 'When is this going to stop?' but there are signs I haven't seen in years past." Hall said. "I think it's pretty obvious (coach) Dallas (Eakins) will be back and that continuity for me is great and will be for a lot of guys in terms of just knowing what to expect. There's not that awkward handshake when you come into camp. You know what expect, what he's going to teach, and most of all, you know what he's like. That's important for all of us."

Taylor Hall has certainly played well since being reunited with Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on the top line four games ago.

Hall celebrated by picking up nine points last week as the was named the NHL's first star. Jordan Eberle had eight points while RNH had four. "Playing with good players seems to be the key to getting up there (points parade), whether that's a pass through a couple of sticks or a shot," said Hall who is seventh in the NHL scoring race. "With the Top 6 on our team (David Perron, Sam Gagner and the injured Nail Yakupov) there are always good guys to play with and there are always positions (power play) to put up points. I know the last four games (RNH and Eberle), it's been a lot of fun."

Taylor Hall has yet to make the playoffs, but he pegged the 2013-14 campaign as the toughest he's been through so far.

The reason for that is the expectations the Oilers had and failed to live up to. The hope going into the year was that Edmonton would finally compete for a playoff spot, but instead they're the second worst team in the league. Edmonton hasn't secured a postseason berth since 2006.

Taylor Hall found himself benched for over 13 minutes on Saturday after he threw a water bottle that exploded on coach Dallas Eakins and associate coach Keith Acton.

Both Eakins and Acton were splattered by water and Eakins had a talk with Hall which resulted in the benching. "I don't expect anything more," Hall said. "At times I think we all get a little frustrated with how it's going. Sometimes you just have to take a step back and realize that frustration is never going to help anything. We know we have to get better." The Oilers dropped an 8-1 decision to their provincial rivals the Flames Saturday and that was enough reason for tempers to flare.
