Marcus Johansson has to go to Sweden to resolve a passport issue.
Johansson is still expected to be in the Washington lineup on Thursday but leaving Sochi to go back home to Sweden will not help his jet lag recovery in time for the first game back. Johansson has seven goals and 36 points this season and was a replacement on the Swedish silver medal winning team for the injured Henrik Sedin.

Marcus Johansson has been inserted into Sweden's lineup.
Johansson was a healthy scratch against the Czech Republic, but the team was forced to make some adjustments after Henrik Zetterberg was knocked out of the tournament with a herniated disc. Johansson will play alongside Daniel Alfredsson and Gustav Nyquist.

Washington forward Marcus Johansson, selected to replace the injured Henrik Sedin on Sweden's Olympic roster, has had a less than spectacular fourth season with the Capitals.
He has seven goals and 29 assists, putting him on pace for 10 goals and a career-high 41 assists and 51 points. He admitted his disappointment at being passed over when the Swedish Olympic team announced its roster last month. The Swedes are considered among the favorites to medal in the Olympic tournament, which begins on Wednesday and concludes on Feb. 23. Caps coach Adam Oates said he hopes Johansson walks away from the Games with wisdom passed down from veteran players like Daniel Sedin, Henrik Zetterberg and Henrik Lundqvist. "Obviously, it's a great experience for him, a huge honor," Oates said. "You hope that for a young guy like him this will take him to another level as a player, to realize he was really close, he was on the bubble, and he gets a chance to go to the Olympics. It shows how the hockey world regards you." Oates said he hopes Johansson's Olympic experience transcends into a more prolific player for the Caps in the final 23 games of the season.

Marcus Johansson has been selected to replace Henrik Sedin on Sweden's Olympic roster.
Sedin will miss the Winter Games to recover from a ribs injury. That's a big blow to Sweden as they compete for the gold, but it will also add to what's been a great campaign for Johansson. Building on his solid 2013 campaign, Johansson has seven goals and 36 points in 58 games with the Washington Capitals this season.

Marcus Johansson suffered a lower body injury in the second period Friday and did not return.
The Capitals will likely release more information on the severity of the injury after morning practice Saturday. Johansson managed to score a power play goal before the injury and now has five goals and 25 points in 35 games with a minus-nine rating. Consider him day-to-day for now.
