Matt Bartkowski D BOS 4 Days

Bartkowski was scratched in favor of Kevan Miller for Wednesday's game against Detroit.

Bartkowski's mobility is an asset to the Bruins' blue line corps, but he has only suited up for one game this season and could be in and out of the team's lineup, until injuries become a factor.

Bartkowski, who was making his season debut for the B's on Monday, entered the lineup at the expense of Kevan Miller. In 19:50 worth of ice time, Bartkowski finished with a minus-2 rating. Bartkowski appears to be the odd man out on the Boston blue line for Wednesday's season opener against the Flyers, the Boston Herald reports.

Though the Bruins traded Johnny Boychuk, they are still carrying an extra defenseman, and out of the gate it looks like Bartkowski is the team's spare, while Adam McQuaid and and Kevan Miller are on track to suit up on Wednesday.

Bartkowski remains a candidate to be traded by the Bruins, the Boston Globe reports.

Adam McQuaid is another player that the Bruins could move to free up some salary cap room, but with Torey Krug and Reilly Smith now back in the fold on team-friendly deals, it looks like Johnny Boychuk (and his $3,366,667 contract) will be retained by the Bruins.

Matt Bartkowski will be a restricted free agent next month.

He played well in 64 games during the regular season, but the playoffs proved that he still has some developing to do. Bartkowski will probably receive a raise from the $650,000 he earned in 2013-14, but he could also be used as trade bait for the Bruins as they look to shake up their roster a bit.

I'd rather not talk about the other one," Bartkowski said. He also picked up an assist in the contest and posted a plus-2 rating. The helper was his first point of these playoffs.
