The St. Louis Blues will be looking to bounce back Wednesday night after dropping Games 3 and 4.

The Blues squandered their 2-0 series lead and they are now tied with the Los Angeles Kings. "I don't think our confidence is shaken here," Kevin Shattenkirk said. "If anything, we're just disappointed with what happened because we know we could have done better. It's not like we don't know what we have to do to get back to the right way. The series is back to a tie. We go back home and start over. It's just a matter of resetting and getting back to the way we were playing." Neither team has won a game on the road yet, but the Kings will need to do that at least once to win this series.

The acquisition of minute-eating defenseman Jay Bouwmeester from Calgary is expected to cut into the ice time of Kevin Shattenkirk.

"Bouwmeester takes some of the minutes that Shatty plays on the penalty kill and that will put Shatty on the ice more on the power play," coach Ken Hitchcock said. "We've already talked to him about that. He knows that and understands it. Bouwmeester is at his best when he's logging all the 5 on 5 and PK minutes." Shattenkirk has produced a goal and an assist in his past two games after he went eight consecutive contests without a point. He has 21 points in 34 matches on the year.

Before their Feb. 1 game against Detroit, the Blues were leading the NHL in fewest shots against with 20.3 per game.

But in two of their three recent losses, they allowed the Red Wings 31 and 29 shot attempts. The 16 goals the team has permitted in its last three games is two more than it has surrendered in its first seven games. Explaining the increased numbers, defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk said, "It's just panic. We're just not really trusting each other in the defensive zone and trying to do other people's jobs. That trust that we had last year and the beginning of this season in the defensive zone is what makes us so sound defensively. The lack of trust and responsibility in our defensive zone has been ultimately what's leading to these prime scoring chances that we're giving up to other teams. Once that happens, you see that confusion in the defensive zone and it just starts to pour on and open up, and it's just a matter of time before they're going to put one in."

Kevin Shattenkirk believes the Blues have gotten too content and self-satisfied with their game and that has led to the recent struggles.

St. Louis has lost the last three games and been outscored 14-2 over the last seven periods. I think there's been a little bit of arrogance that's kind of crept into our game here, a little bit of complacency," Shattenkirk said. "Even (Thursday) night, we got that goal back at 2-1, we're just expecting things to fall into place for us because they did last year and we're kind of just sitting back waiting for it to happen instead of making it happen. ... We just don't want to put in the hard work that comes along with winning. That's it right there ... cheating those little details. You always hear about them and those little things are what ultimately makes up winning teams and what gets you to that next level."
