Nick Leddy D NYI 14 Days

Leddy assisted on two of the Islanders' four goals in Saturday's loss to the Blues.

Leddy has seen his minutes rise of late with the Islanders missing all of Travis Hamonic, Lubomir Visnovsky and Johnny Boychuk out with injuries. Both Hamonic and Boychuk are expected to miss multiple weeks, leaving Leddy to serve as the team's top producer on the blue line until further notice. The move to Long Island has proven kind to him so far this season, as he's compiled five goals and 13 points to go along with a plus-10 rating over 27 games.

Leddy was one of six Islanders to find the net in Tuesday's shutout win over the Avalanche.

Leddy has netted just three points in his last nine games, but still remains in good shape to top last season's mark of 31 points in 82 games. While he's surprisingly noticed a drop in power-play time with the move from Chicago to Long Island, Leddy has noticed a nearly three-minute rise in his even-strength ice time, giving him more opportunities to pile up counting stats.

Leddy bagged the game's first goal in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Maple Leafs.

Leddy fired a wrist shot in the slot past Toronto's Jonathan Bernier for his third goal and fourth point in four games. He appears to be adapting quite well in moving from Chicago to Long Island, as he's seen an increase in scoring opportunities while averaging three minutes more ice time with the Isles.

Leddy scored a goal and added an assist Thursday in a shootout win over San Jose.

Two days after scoring his first goal with the Isles, Leddy came right back with his second. He should continue seeing plenty of offensive opportunities, so Leddy has a legitimate chance to exceed his career high of 37 points as long as he holds his top-pairing position.

Leddy capped off the Islanders' scoring Tuesday with his first goal of the season in a 6-2 win over the Rangers.

Leddy hasn't shined to the extent that fellow late-training camp blue line acquisition Johnny Boychuk (six points in three games) has, but he's still represented an upgrade to the team's defensive unit since coming over from Chicago. He's already averaging nearly two minutes more ice time per game than he enjoyed with the Blackhawks, which should ultimately prove helpful toward his counting totals. Furthermore, if the Islanders' 3-0-0 start doesn't prove to be too much of a mirage, Leddy may become an unexpected asset in the plus/minus category as well.

Leddy was traded to the Islanders on Saturday, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The Islanders' blue line was a major weakness for the team heading into training camp, and even more so after several key members (Lubomir Visnovsky, Calvin de Haan, Matt Carkner) enter the season at uncertain health. In acquiring Leddy (along with Johnny Boychuk from the Bruins earlier in the day), the Islanders not only get healthy bodies into the fold, but offer improved protection for netminder Jaroslav Halak. The Blackhawks will be able to get under the salary cap by trading away Leddy, who was due to make $2.7 million this season. Leddy figures to assume a top-four role for the Islanders, where another 30-point season should be attainable.

Leddy has been a healthy scratch in the final two preseason games and could be traded as late as Tuesday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The Blackhawks are over the salary cap and need to reach it by Tuesday afternoon so Leddy could be the victim of it. Leddy is in the final year of a two-year contract that pays him $2.7 million this season. In addition the Blackhawks recalled defenseman Klas Dahlbeck from Rockford earlier in the week and he skated for more than 22 minutes in the final preseason game, a 3-2 loss to the Rangers. In response to a question about Leddy's future with the team, Hawks' coach Joel Quenneville just said, "We'll see." Leddy collected seven goals and 24 assists last season, his fourth with the Blackhawks.

Coach Joel Quenneville said that Nick Leddy will get another chance to play in Chicago's second-round series against Minnesota.

He was a healthy scratch for Game 3 and it hasn't been confirmed yet if he'll play in Game 4 on Friday night. "I still think he'll be a big part of this series and success going forward," Quenneville said. "We're going to need him here, and we want him to be a part of it." Leddy has two assists in eight 2014 postseason contests.
