Zack Kassian RW VAN 11 Days

Kassian (leg) was activated from injured reserve Saturday.

The Canucks sent down Nicklas Jensen to AHL Utica to clear a spot for Kassian's return. Kassian missed his fifth straight game Friday with the leg injury, but he's been practicing the last couple of days and should be close to 100 percent healthy for the Canucks' next game Wednesday versus the Oilers.

Zack Kassian RW VAN 12 Days

Kassian (leg) skated as an extra at Friday's morning skate, suggesting he won't make his return to ice in the evening against the Coyotes.

Kassian will miss his fifth straight contest with the injury, but the fact that he was able to resume practicing Thursday provides hope that he might not be too far off of a return. The winger was moved to injured reserve over the past weekend, so the Canucks would have to make a roster move in order to facilitate his return to the lineup once he's ready to go.

Kassian (leg) returned to practice Thursday, Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun reports.

With Kevin Bieksa absent from practice, Kassian stepped in to take reps at defense rather than at his usual spot on the wing. The fact that Kassian wasn't taking part in regular line work would seem to suggest that the Canucks won't activate him for Friday's game against the Coyotes, but more clarity on his status should come after the team's morning skate.

Kassian (leg) was placed on injured reserve Sunday.

The move to injured reserve indicates that the Canucks didn't expect to have Kassian back until at least the weekend, meaning he'll miss his fourth straight game Tuesday against the Senators. Brandon DeFazio was recalled from AHL Utica in a corresponding move.

Kassian will not play Thursday because of a lower body injury.

Kassian potted a goal in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Stars.

The score snapped a three-game pointless drought for Kassian, who hasn't been especially active on either offensive or defense this season. He's attempted only eight shots and has gathered seven hits and no blocks in five games, numbers that don't offer much to get excited about.

Kassian scored a goal, recorded three shots on goal, and was credited with two PIM in Wednesday's season-opening win vs. Calgary.

Kassian looked good on the third line with Brad Richardson and Linden Vey, but he could get bumped up into the top-six at some point this season . The gritty winger will provide fantasy owners with elite PIM numbers and should improve on the career-high 14 goals he recorded in 2013-14.

Kassian skated on the third line alongside Linden Vey and Brad Richardson in Saturday's preseason finale win over Edmonton.

Kassian, who failed to record a point in three preseason games, appears set to start the season in a bottom-six role. The 23-year-old power forward led the Canucks in scoring in the second half of the 2013-14 season, notching a career-high 14 goals and 29 points in the process. While Radim Vrbata is set to play with the Sedin twins on the top unit, Kassian should have the chance to earn himself a spot on the second line. Kassian likely needs a permanent role in the top-six to exhibit his full scoring potential.
