Campbell gathered an assist on Jonathan Huberdeau's third-period goal Thursday versus the Lightning.
The 35-year-old Campbell was paired up with No. 1 overall pick Aaron Ekblad in the opener, with the rookie earning credit for a secondary assist on the Huberdeau goal. Though the Panthers will look to Campbell to provide leadership for Ekblad as he transitions to the NHL, the veteran still brings plenty to the table as a fantasy option in his own right. He's set to quarterback the top power-play unit again this season and should again challenge for 40 points.

Brian Campbell reportedly would like the Florida Panthers to trade him.
Is there much of a market for Campbell though? He's certainly a valuable offensive defenseman and although he's 35 years old, he should still have some strong seasons ahead of him. However, he comes with a $7,142,875 annual cap hit through 2015-16 and that's likely to scare off teams that would otherwise be interested in the veteran puck-moving defenseman. The Panthers can make things easier by agreeing to retain part of his cap hit, but they might not be inclined to do so if they didn't want to move him in the first place.

Campbell also had seven goals, giving him 37 points in 82 points in 2013-14. That's something of a disappointment by his standards, but it isn't surprising given how anemic the Panthers' offense was this season.

Brian Campbell has played more sound defensively this season, but its come at the expense of offensive production.
The veteran blueliner had 27 points, six power play goals and a -22 rating through 47 games last year. This year, he's got 21 points, two power play goals and an even rating through 50 games. Two possible factors are that last season his shooting percentage was incredibly higher than his career average, and this year Tom Gilbert is stepping up into a complementary scoring role for the Panthers' defense.

Brian Campbell ranks third in the NHL with an average of 27:21 minutes per game.
Even for a workhorse like Campbell, that's a lot. In fact, at the age of 34 he's on course to set a new career-high for average minutes. "You do what you have to do, I think," said Campbell. "You don't control [the minutes] so you try to get a lot of rest, a lot of pills - the legal ones. I try to take care of myself and you learn over the years." He has four goals and 16 points in 38 matches this season.

Brian Campbell wants to get Florida's power play back on track.
"We moved it around better [Saturday]," Campbell said after a 4-1 win over Colorado. "It's frustrating for me. I look at the power play. We've been in the Top 10 the last few years. Not a lot has changed, we still have the personnel here to get the job done so for me it's something I think about a lot and it upsets me. We got to start climbing in that category and be better." He scored with the man advantage against the Avalanche for the game's winning goal. The Panthers have the league's worst power play, with seven markers on 74 opportunities.
