The contract negotiations between Ryan Callahan and the Tampa Bay Lightning are ongoing.

The talks have reportedly been positive, but the two sides aren't close to agreeing to terms. Callahan reportedly wanted a contract in the range of six-year, $39 million from the Rangers before they traded him and if he's making similar demands on the Lightning then that might prevent them from getting anything done.

The Tampa Bay Lightning made a "good case" to keep Ryan Callahan, according to agent Steven Bartlett, but he may decide to test free agency to see what other offers are out there.

"There's no question he did enjoy it," Bartlett said. "He was impressed by the organization and everybody, from the city and the fans, everything was positive. I think the city made a good case for itself, the team made a good case. There's always the temptation of July 1st. You don't get that many times in your career, especially at the peak of your career. Those are what you have to balance, the positive and all the good things he knows about Tampa, and what is his right, you have the opportunity to at least hear other people. That doesn't mean Tampa wouldn't be his first choice." The two sides haven't engaged in serious contract talks yet, but they can discuss a new deal exclusively until July 1. Bartlett believes Callahan will draw interest from plenty of teams if he goes on the open market.

Ryan Callahan's agent, Stephen Bartlett, said Tampa Bay will be "in the mix" for his client's services this summer.

"He has a great respect for the organization," Bartlett said. "We look forward to hearing what they have to say." Callahan is "open" to returning to the Lightning, but it sounds like he may test the market to see what's out there.

Ryan Callahan is eligible to be an unrestricted free agent in the summer.

Ryan Callahan had his first playoff goal with the Lightning controversially waved off in Game 3.

The tally would've given Tampa Bay a 2-1 with 4:22 left in the second period, but it was disallowed because of incidental contact on Montreal goaltender Carey Price by Alex Killorn. Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper was "pissed" with the call during the game and he was "pissed" afterward. Now, the Lightning find themselves in a 3-0 hole in the series.

Callahan has been a useful contributor for the Lightning since joining the team earlier in the month and has now picked up eight points in 11 games with the team. No matter how you slice it, he has been more productive for the Bolts than Martin St. Louis has been with the Rangers.

Ryan Callahan has fit in nicely for the Tampa bay Lightning since being acquired from the Rangers.

"With our team, that was probably a little bit of an element we were missing," said coach Jon Cooper. "He just brings a different dynamic to our team. And that kid knows how to play the game below the dots and we just have not had a whole lot of those players wheel through our organization. So he's been a great fit for us. He's one of those guys you never have to worry about in the locker room, you know what you are getting and it's 100-percent effort. You can't have enough of those guys." Callahan has also contributing on the scoreboard with two goals and three assists in nine games.
