Tampa Bay GM Steve Yzerman likes what Ryan Callahan brings to the table.

"He fills a need for us in that he's not replacing Marty St. Louis, but he plays in all situations," Yzerman said after acquiring Callahan as part of the Martin St. Louis trade. "He kills penalties, he's a great shot blocker, probably most well known for penalty killing, his defensive ability, shot-blocking ability. He's very good in front of the net on the power play. He's an all-around solid player who really competes." Yzerman added that he intends to re-sign Callahan, who can become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year.

Ryan Callahan has been dealt to the Tampa Bay Lightning in a package for Martin St. Louis.

The Lightning also acquired a first-round pick in 2015 and a second-round pick in 2014 in the trade. Callahan is eligible to be an unrestricted free agent this summer and it's unclear right now if the Lightning will retain him. The former Rangers captain has recorded 11 goals and 25 points in 45 games.

Larry Brooks of the New York Post reports that the Rangers now appear willing to go to six years on a contract with captain Ryan Callahan.

Brooks says the deal would be worth $36 million. Callahan is reportedly looking for a seven-year contract worth around $7 million per season. The Rangers are said to be set on dealing their captain at the deadline if an agreement isn't reached with him by then. Callahan has 11 goals and 24 points in 44 games this year.

Alain Vigneault is "very confident" that Ryan Callahan will re-sign with the Rangers.

In speaking to the media prior to the Rangers' loss to the Flyers, Vigneault was upbeat about Callahan's chances of staying with the team. "Well, I'm very confident that the other half will get done, also," Vigneault said. ... "Ryan's the captain of this team. You guys all know what he brings to the table and what he brings to this team on a daily basis, so Dan (Girardi) got done, and I always said I've been optimistic and positive, and I'm positive and optimistic that this is going to get done - I hope." News reports have indicated that if the Rangers can't come to an agreement with Callahan before the 3p.m. ET March 5 deadline, general manager Glen Sather will trade him.

Ryan Callahan's agent Steve Bartlett said he's still in negotiations with the New York Rangers.

It was recently reported that there is a "99%" chance that Callahan will be traded and with every day that passes, it becomes increasingly likely that the two sides won't be able to agree on a contract extension. The Rangers inked Daniel Girardi to a six-year, $33 million deal on Friday and while Bartlett said that doesn't impact his client in any way, it mean that the Rangers will be more squarely focused on Callahan.

Ryan Callahan doesn't want to talk about the trade speculation surrounding him.

This followed a report that there is a "99%" chance that Callahan will be traded before the March 5 deadline. Callahan doesn't have a no-trade clause, so this matter is largely out of his hands, unless he wants to try lowering his contract demands in an effort to bridge the gap with the Rangers. That being said, Callahan is reportedly seeking as much as $49 million over seven years while the Rangers countered with $30 million over five. If those numbers are accurate, then it would be very difficult for the gap to be bridged before the deadline arrives.

There's reportedly a "99%" chance that Ryan Callahan will be traded.

The Rangers and Callahan appear to be at an impasse, but the X-factor should be whether or not there's a team out there willing to work something out with New York. There's no question that Callahan has considerable trade value, but the Rangers reportedly reached out to Tampa Bay hoping to get Martin St. Louis in exchange for Callahan. That both suggests that the Rangers' expectations are high and perhaps even that they're not eager to trade Callahan for picks and/or prospects, which is one most teams after a rental would be offering.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have no interest in trading Martin St. Louis for Ryan Callahan according to the New York Post.

The Post reported that Rangers GM Glen Sather has talked to Lightning GM Steve Yzerman but Yzerman will not entertain the idea at all. Callahan is slated to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and while the Rangers have been trying to ink him to a new deal, it has been unsuccessful thus far. Callahan has 11 goals and 24 points in 42 games this season with an even plus/minus rating and only 14 minutes in the penalty box.

Ryan Callahan and the New York Rangers haven't made much progress in their contract negotiations.

Callahan is reportedly seeking as much as $49 million over seven years while the Rangers are offering $30 million over five. With that in mind, the Rangers are continuing to look at their options on the trade front, but it looks like they probably won't make a move before the trade freeze begins at 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday.
