Chris Butler potted a goal in the Flames' 3-1 loss to the Blackhawks Friday night.
Butler was drafted by the Sabres in 2005 and spent parts of three seasons with Buffalo in a limited role before moving on with the Flames. He's not expected to have any fantasy value in standard leagues next season.

Chris Butler was surprised to find out that Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff had been fired.
Butler was drafted by the Sabres in 2005 and spent parts of three seasons with Buffalo. "He'd been there for such a long time that it just sort of felt like he was going to be there forever," Butler said. "I think he had a tremendous working relationship between he and (Sabres general manager) Darcy (Regier). It was a good partnership. He had a lot of success." Butler had his best season under Ruff, recording 21 points in 59 games in 2009-10.

Chris Butler (knee) is expected to play on Thursday.
Butler, who missed 14 games this season, is projected to play alongside Jay Bouwmeester. The timing with his return coincides with Cory Sarich suffering an upper body injury, so Calgary could really use the help right now.

Chris Butler, one of the top four Calgary defensemen, has missed the past 13 games after suffering a deep cut to a thigh from a Miikka Kiprusoff skate blade on Feb. 23, but don't be surprised if he is in the lineup when the Flames meet the Avalanche in Colorado tonight.
"I felt for a while there it was like Groundhog Day, but (Sunday) I kind of got over the hump and started feeling good with my skating and felt like I'd be able to get back out there with the team again," said Butler. "It feels good. I haven't really had setbacks in the last week. I've been skating, so it's kind of to the point where it's day to day. I'm just working on getting my legs underneath me, handling the puck well and getting comfortable to play." Butler made the trip to Colorado with the Flames, as did teammates Lance Bouma and Tim Jackman, who have been sidelined with upper-body injuries the past six and seven games, respectively.
