Butler should draw back into the lineup Tuesday, according to coach Ken Hitchcock, reports Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
With Carl Gunnarsson suffering the effects of a concussion, Butler is in a three-man rotation at the back end of the Blues defense. Butler has one assist and is plus-3 in 9 games with the Blues this year.

After Jordan Leopold was dealt to the Blue Jackets earlier in the day, Butler will join the Blues to serve as the team's seventh defenseman. The veteran is unlikely to see much frequent action in games and represents more of a fallback option in the event one of the Blues' other defensemen suffers an injury.

Waived earlier in camp by the Blues, Butler remained with the Blues as an extra body for the final handful of preseason games. The 27-year-old has 349 games of NHL experience on his ledger and should find his way back to St. Louis later on this season.

Butler was one of a slew of players competing for the seventh spot on defense for the Blues, but he failed to do enough in training camp to warrant a stay with the parent club. Assuming Butler clears waivers, he's slated to open the campaign at AHL Chicago.

Butler had 16 points and a minus-23 rating in 82 games with the Calgary Flames last season. He also ranked second in the NHL with 211 blocked shots. The Blues defense for the start of the season already looks pretty much set, but there's a small chance that Butler will be able to beat out Ian Cole for the final roster spot.

He trailed only Andrew MacDonald who had 241 in a season split between the Islanders and Philadelphia. Butler also finished 10 ahead of teammate Kris Russell. Butler had only two goals and 16 points with a terrible minus-23 rating but if you need blocked shots next season, he will help your fantasy team.

Butler was injured on Thursday and reports had him sitting Saturday's game out but lo and behold, he played 20:11 minutes with a hit and two blocked shots. He has only two goals and 10 points in 60 games this season with a minus-17 rating.
