Alex Burrows LW VAN 15 Hrs

Burrows snapped a three-game scoreless streak Thursday against the Blues by picking up a pair of assists. He also went plus-2 on the evening.

Although it's been a bit of an uneven start to the year for Burrows, he's still finding the scoresheet at a better rate than he has either of the last two seasons. If he can bounce back even as far as the high 40s in terms of points, his combination of offense and penalty minutes will once again play in a wide variety of formats.

Burrows netted a power-play goal in Wednesday's season-opening win over the Flames.

It took Burrows 36 games to score his first goal last season, so this is a relief for fantasy owners. Burrows was also credited with two PIM and five hits in the win. It was a great start for the 33-year-old winger, who is currently skating on the second line alongside Nick Bonino and Chris Higgins.

Burrows finished the preseason with no goals and two assists in five games, to go with a plus-3 rating.

Burrows heated up towards the end of the preseason, fitting in well on the second line with Chris Higgins and Nick Bonino. Burrows loses some fantasy value due to the fact he is no longer playing with the Sedin twins, but that doesn't mean he can't still produce 20 goals. Burrows will see time on the team's second power-play unit and should improve on the lackluster five goals and 15 points he achieved in 2013-14. He is nowhere near that bad.

Alex Burrows will likely skate on the second line with Nick Bonino in 2014-15.

Radim Vrbata is projected to play with the Sedin twins, so Burrows will get Bonino and either Zack Kassian or Jannik Hansen as his linemates. "I think we want to have more balance on our four lines and more scoring depth," said GM Jim Benning. "So if we can move Alex, say, from the first line to the second line, it makes our second line better. I think now we have depth at the forward position where every line can contribute in scoring and that's one of the things we set out to do." Burrows struggled mightily last year, while earning five goals and 15 points in 49 appearances.

Team Canada coach Dave Tippett said that Alex Burrows (knee) "probably" could've played Tuesday against Norway if "we needed him to play."

That's good news as it looked like Burrows was seriously injured when he collided knee-on-knee with Joachim Ramoser of Italy on Friday. Tippett expects him to be fine to play when Canada plays in the quarterfinal round this week.

Alex Burrows finished the 2013-14 season with only 15 points.

It was a poor season for Burrows as he had four seasons of over 25 goals before the shortened 2012-13 season. He found the back of the net only five times this season. Burrows turned 33 on Friday and his best seasons could be behind him.

Alex Burrows feels that former Canucks coach Alain Vigneault was more rationale while their current bench boss, John Tortorella, relies on gut feelings.

"For the most part, Alain let us decide how we wanted to play as a team," Burrows said. "He manages his bench well and they (Rangers) seem to be rolling four lines, and they'll be a dangerous team in the playoffs." Burrows still thinks very highly of Vigneault. Burrows enjoyed four straight campaigns of at least 25 goals, but he has just 14 points in 43 contests in 2013-14.

It had previously sounded like Burrows wasn't even going to make the trip to Minnesota for this match. He ended up missing just one game due to the ailment.
