Ilya Bryzgalov (head) took some shots on goal Sunday.
Bryzgalov was injured eight days ago and suffered a concussion/whiplash injury so the fact he already was facing some shots before practice is a good sign. There is no definite date for his return but another 10-14 days seems realistic if there are no setbacks. "When it's your head or neck, you don't want to fool with it. When it's your leg, you can say a guy will be back in four days but anything above the shoulder, that's open-ended (return-date)," said Oilers' coach Dallas Eakins. Stay tuned as Bryzgalov has stopped 92 of 98 shots in his three NHL games this season.

"Every day it's getting better and better, so hopefully soon... I'm pretty happy to be playing again," Bryzgalov said. He had an up-and-down return to action on the weekend of Dec. 2, but he remains an intriguing mystery as a depth goalie option.

Bryzgalov got the call against the Blue Jackets after shutting out the Nashville Predators the night before. "I just wanted to see if we could ignite our team," Edmonton coach Dallas Eakins said about replacing his starting goalie in the third. "He played so well (Thursday) night and I was just looking to maybe shake our players up and see if we could get going." Ilya Bryzgalov will play between the pipes for the second straight night on Friday.
That's not too surprising after Bryzgalov posted a 33-save shutout against Nashville on Thursday. He will be facing the Columbus Blue Jackets this time around, who will counter with Sergei Bobrovsky. The two were teammates in Philadelphia and competed for playing time. Bobrovsky was eventually pushed out of Philadelphia because of Bryzgalov, but while Bobrovsky went on to win a Vezina Trophy in Columbus, Bryzgalov struggled and was bought out.
