Alhtough it is a longshot, Detroit GM Ken Holland is hopeful that Henrik Zetterberg (back surgery) will be able to play in the playoffs should the Red Wings qualify.
"I don't anticipate he'll be ready to play in any games of the regular season," Holland said Saturday. "I'm hopeful that we can play our way into the playoffs and that he'll be back, but that's down the road." Probably just wishful thinking on Holland's part.

Henrik Zetterberg might miss what's left of the 2013-14 campaign after undergoing back surgery.
Zetterberg needed treatment after suffering a herniated disk. He's currently projected to miss eight weeks, which would take him past the Red Wings' final regular season match. He has 16 goals and 48 points in 45 games in 2013-14.

Henrik Zetterberg (back) is expected to travel home from Sochi, Russia on Thursday.
He isn't projected to play once the NHL gets back into full swing next week. Zetterberg played one game for Sweden during the Winter Olympics before a herniated disc in his back forced him out of the tournament.

Red Wings GM Ken Holland doesn't think Henrik Zetterberg's herniated disk can be blamed on the Olympics.
Zetterberg had back problems before going to Sochi. "Whether in the Olympics or NHL, it probably would have been the same situation," Holland said. There's a chance that Zetterberg will be out for the remainder of the season, but nothing has been determined yet. He still needs to return to Detroit so that he can be evaluated further.

Swedish team doctor, Bjorn Waldeback, believes Henrik Zetterberg could miss the rest of the season due to herniated disc in his back.
This may be premature as Zetterberg still needs to be re-evaluated by Detroit doctors, but this is not positive news for the Wings or Zetterberg owners. Stay tuned for updates.

Henrik Zetterberg is out for the remainder of the Olympics with a herniated disc in his back.
This is a huge blow for Sweden as they lose their captain. Zetterberg is one of the best, two-way players in the NHL and it will be a severe loss for the Swedes. His return to the Red Wings is also in doubt when the season re-starts, as this may be a long-term injury. Stay tuned.

Henrik Zetterberg is being listed as day-to-day because of herniated disc in his back.
He hasn't been ruled out for Friday's match against Switzerland and the team will assess his status before the contest. There's a chance that he could be rested as well, so that he's healthier for the elimination contests. "Our doctor's orders are No. 1, so I don't know, actually," coach Par Marts said. "I'm hopeful. Hopefully, he can play. If not, then perhaps the other games."

Henrik Zetterberg is still being hampered by a herniated disc and his status for Friday's game against Switzerland is unclear.
The Swedish captain scored the game-winning goal against the Czech Republic during Wednesday's Olympic opener, but he didn't practice Thursday morning. Zetterberg has missed 13 games this season with the Red Wings because of back issues.

Henrik Zetterberg played between Gabriel Landeskog and Alexander Steen during Monday's practice for Team Sweden.
It's interesting that he didn't skate with Detroit teammates Gustav Nyquist and Daniel Alfredsson during the session. Zetterberg and Nyquist were playing very well together prior to the Olympic break.
