Greg Zanon D FLA 3 Months

Zanon was waived by the Panthers on Sunday, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

The 34-year-old blueliner never had much of a chance at cracking the Panthers' Opening Night roster. Alex Petrovic, Colby Robak and MacKenzie Weegar remain in a battle for the team's seventh defenseman job.

Greg Zanon has agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the Florida Panthers.

Zanon's two-year, $4.5 million contract with the Colorado Avalanche was bought out last summer. He's a veteran of 493 NHL games, but he spent the 2013-14 campaign with the AHL San Antonio Rampage. He had four assists and 34 penalty minutes in 24 games in the minors.

Colorado has used a standard buyout on defenseman Greg Zanon.

Since the Avalanche didn't use a compliance buyout it will cost them a cap hit of $750,000 for next season and the one after. Zanon will be free to sign anywhere on July 5.

Greg Zanon has been placed on unconditional waivers.

He cleared regular waivers on Wednesday and since he had no takers, the Avalanche will probably buy out the rest of his contract. Zanon is owned $2.25 million next season in the final year of his present contract.

Greg Zanon cleared waivers Wednesday and remains a member of the Colorado Avalanche.

The Avs threw a shot in the dark that someone would claim Zanon and allow them to jump into the free-agent pool. He remains under contract to Colorado but is a non-factor for fantasy owners.

Colorado Avalanche place Greg Zanon on waivers.

We haven't blurbed about Zanon since he signed a two-year, $4.5 million contract last July 1, which should tell you about his fantasy value. The 33-year old had six assists, 28 penalty minutes and a minus-16 rating in 44 games this season.

Greg Zanon has inked a two-year/$4.5 million contract with the Colorado Avalanche.

Zanon had three goals and eight points in 56 games with the Minnesota Wild and Boston Bruins in 2011-12. He's a good defensive defenseman, but he doesn't have much offensive upside.

Greg Zanon is not expected to re-up with the Boston Bruins prior to July 1.

He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent and will likely see what's available on the open market. Zanon recorded eight points, 116 hits, 136 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in 56 games between Minnesota and Boston during the 2011-12 campaign. He also appeared in seven playoff contests with the Bruins. He doesn't have much fantasy value, aside from his work in specialty categories, so he shouldn't be on your radar for standard leagues. Still, he should attract some interest from teams looking for a veteran defender, who doesn't shy away from the grittier work.

Injuries to Boston defensemen Dennis Seidenberg and Adam McQuaid have increased Greg Zanon's ice time with the Bruins and he's made the most of it.

Zanon played 21:59 against Washington Thursday night, the most ice time he's had as a Bruin. Zanon nearly scored in the second period, but his wrist shot from the point caromed off the right post. He was credited with four hits and one blocked shot. "Zans has been a real good fit for us with the way we play, playing positional hockey vs. man on man,'' Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "He's really adapted well and done a really good job. All his strengths are still showing. He's blocking a lot of shots. He's a physical player. I think he's done a great job moving the puck.''
