Wisniewski picked up three assists, including two on the power play, in Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Lightning.

The Blue Jackets' roster is barely NHL-caliber right now thanks to eight injured regulars plus Jack Johnson serving a suspension, but Wisniewski's return from a broken finger has at least helped spark the club's power play unit. He'll get you points from the blue line, but be wary of the damage he can do to your plus/minus with the Jackets winless in their last nine games.

Wisniewski (finger) was officially activated from injured reserve Thursday, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.

Wisniewski's activation was a foregone conclusion after the defenseman announced he was ready to play Friday against the Hurricanes following a successful practice session Thursday. The Blue Jackets will move Ryan Murray (knee) to injured reserve for what is believed to be a short-term deployment, so it shouldn't be long before the team is back at close to full health on the blue line.

Wisniewski (finger) will play Friday, Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Post-Dispatch reports.

Wisniewski is set to return to action after practicing each of the last two days. It's not exactly clear where he will line up Friday with Jack Johnson (suspension) out, but he will likely line up as part of the Blue Jackets' first or second defensive pairing.

Wisniewski was on the ice for practice Wednesday.

Coach Todd Richards seemed pleased with Wisniewski's performance during the session, noting that the blueliner was able to shoot the puck and take part in some additional drills. With another quality practice on Thursday, he could receive clearance to return to action either Friday against the Hurricanes or Saturday against the Lightning.

X-rays on Wisniewski's broken finger came back negative Tuesday night, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.

It appears that Wisniewski is noticing some healing in the finger and will not require surgery, taking a long-term absence off the table. Wisniewski was initially projected to miss one-to-two weeks after suffering the injury Oct. 28, but because he has yet to resume practicing, it looks like he'll have to settle for the long end of that timetable.

Wisniewksi has been ruled out for one-to-two weeks after suffering a broken finger in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Senators, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.

No team has been bit harder by the injury bug in the first three weeks of the season than the Blue Jackets, who already have five players on injured reserve and also saw key forwards in Artem Anisimov and Nick Foligno exit with injuries over their last two games. Add Wisniewski's name to the list of the casualties, forcing the Blue Jackets to temporarily replace a top-four defenseman just after the team welcomed Ryan Murray back from IR. With no goals and three assists through his first nine games, Wisniewski had already been a disappointment for fantasy owners, whose frustration has likely reached a fever pitch with this latest news.

Wisniewski was held without a point in Sunday's loss to the Kings. He's accumulated no goals and two assists over the Jackets' first eight games.

Wisniewski did fire off a respectable five shots Sunday, but he's continued to feel the harsh effects of regression after supplying a career-best 51 points in his age-30 season. That total was 21 points more than his best mark from any previous campaign, suggesting the breakthrough could be an outlier. Wisniewski should still offer better-than-average production from the blue line this season; just don't expect him to finish eighth among defensemen in scoring again.

James Wisniewski has surpassed Jaroslav Spacek to set a new Blue Jackets record for points in a single season by a defenseman.

Wisniewski had a goal and an assist on Thursday, giving him 46 points in 69 games. That also puts him in a tie for ninth place in the defensemen scoring race.

James Wisniewski had a hand in each of the Blue Jackets' goals in their 2-0 victory over the Flyers on Thursday night.

Wisniewski scored and assisted on Brandon Dubinsky's goal. Wisniewski has enjoyed a fine season, with seven goals and 46 points, to go with 55 penalty minutes. Dubinsky's goal was his 16th of the season. Mark Letestu, Fedor Tyutin and Cam Atkinson doled out the assists.
