Shea Weber recorded a goal and an assist in Nashville's 4-1 victory over Buffalo.

His 16th goal of the 2013-14 campaign held up as the game winner. He wired a wrister behind Sabres netminder Jhonas Enroth, which prompted coach Barry Trotz's praise. "Everybody thinks about the slap shot, but probably (Weber's) wrist shot is, to me, his most effective shot," Trotz said. "When he gets in there on top of the circles and snaps it off, it's the most effective, and I think he can place it better. But he can loosen you up with a couple of slap shots, I know that." Weber has amassed 42 points in 63 matches this year.

The Nashville Predators aren't interested in trading Shea Weber.

"We're not trading Shea. We've told that to everybody. People ask and it's their right to ask, but we're not trading him," Predators GM David Poile said. Nashville committed to a 14-year, $110 million contract with Weber after the defenseman signed an offer sheet with Philadelphia. We're only in the second year of that contract and it would be surprising if Poile was already shopping him.

Shea Weber anchored Canada's shutdown of the American offense Friday afternoon, leading the team with 21:39 in ice time during the team's successful stifling of the tournament's best offense.

The entire Canadian team has grown into Mike Babcock's defensive strategy, as Canada has allowed just three goals through five games in Sochi. Babcock brought in former Edmonton Oilers and Swiss national team coach Ralph Krueger, employing him to teach the Canadians how to maul offenses using the bigger-than-usual international ice surface. The results have improved each game, as demonstrated by Friday's impressive display led by Weber, Duncan Keith, Drew Doughty and Alex Pietrangelo.

Shea Weber tallied the game-winning goal for Canada in a 2-1 decision against Latvia in Olympic play on Wednesday.

He scored on a Canadian power play with a little more than half of the third period in the books. Drew Doughty and Jonathan Toews assisted on his third marker of the tournament. Patrick Sharp had the team's other goal in the win. Canada will move on to play the United States in semifinal action on Friday.

Shea Weber has been excellent for Nashville this season and he's carried over that superb play into the Olympic Games.

"He has the ability to elevate his game and he is peaking at the right time," said his agent, Jarret Bousquet. "Everything is coming together at the right time, and I would agree, this is the best hockey I've seen him play." Weber has recorded two goals and two assists in three games for Canada. He's also been great in his own end. Weber has been a runner-up for the Norris Trophy two times before and he'll get plenty of consideration for the award at the end of this season.

Shea Weber is off to a hot start in Sochi with two goals and an assist through Canada's first two games.

The Preds' captain has simply been superb playing with Duncan Keith on the Canadian blueline. Weber notched six points in seven games during the 2010 Olympics, so it seems he handles the big stage pretty well. He is currently second on the Canadian roster in ice time, averaging just under 20 minutes per game.

Shea Weber is in the Predators' lineup Friday night for Nashville's game versus New Jersey.

Weber was a game-time decision after suffering an upper-body injury on Tuesday night. He is a definite green-light in fantasy hockey lineups.

Shea Weber (upper body) did not skate Thursday and he's questionable to play Friday versus New Jersey.

He is considered day-to-day with an upper-body injury. "It's a big deal if he doesn't play," coach Barry Trotz said. "It's a huge hole we have to fill." The Predators' most experienced defenseman after Weber is newcomer Michael Del Zotto, who has appeared in 296 career NHL contests. It's unclear if Weber will be able to play Saturday versus St. Louis as well.
