Joel Ward RW WAS 17 Days
Ward notched a power-play goal -- the game-winner -- and a power-play assist in Tuesday's 3-1 win over Pittsburgh.Ward's tally with under five minutes left in the third period untied a 1-1 game and sent Washington to the win. However, it's his first multi-point game since Dec. 6, and just his third of the year -- not a lot of production for a guy who's skating more than 17 minutes per game.

Ward assisted on Eric Fehr's third-period goal in Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Kings.
With Ward's shooting percentage regressing back to his career rate (11.2%) this season, his goal totals have predictably taken a dive. Since Ward isn't especially proficient as a setup artist, either, it's resulted in a stark decline in his point totals, effectively taking him off the radar outside of deeper formats.

Ward gave the Capitals a 3-0 lead in Saturday's win over the Red Wings with his 11th goal of the season.
A popular regression candidate entering the season after he recorded a career-best 49 points in 2013-14 as a 33-year-old, Ward hasn't fallen off quite as much as many projected. For the third straight season, he's finding net on over 15 percent of his shot attempts, a remarkable achievement considering his career rate sits at 11.5 percent. With 19 points over 41 games, he'll have a legitimate chance at cracking the 40-point plateau for a second straight year.

Ward gathered two assists in Saturday's win over the Devils.
Ward makes his bacon for his ability to finish off scoring rushes, but he instead set up Evgeny Kuznetsov's power-play and Brooks Laich's empty-net goal this time around. Though he's seeing nearly a minute-and-a-half increase in ice time from a season earlier, Ward's scoring hasn't noticed a dramatic spike. He still has a respectable 15 points in 26 contests.
Joel Ward RW WAS 4 Months
Ward scored a power play goal in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Flames.
After posting a career-high 24 goals last season, Ward is on pace to reach somewhere in the 30-40 range. He may not get there, but he seems to be building on last year's 49 point campaign, and could be a worthwhile pick up.
Joel Ward RW WAS 4 Months
Ward netted two goals in 16:20 of ice time in Saturday's win over Calgary.
A dominant performance from Ward, who opened the scoring with a power-play tally in the first period, before scoring the eventual game-winning goal at even strength in the second period. Although his fourth-line role isn't ideal for fantasy owners, Ward has still managed four goals in seven games this season, making him worth a look in deep leagues. His great shot comes in use on the power play, where he lines up on the Capitals' second unit. Expect another 20-goal season from the 33-year-old.

Ward scored his second goal of the season in Thursday's 6-2 win over the Devils.
Ward's unassisted marker with 17:35 remaining in the third period resulted in Devils removing goalie Cory Schneider from the game. The winger is off to a respectable start to the 2014-15 campaign, but don't expect him to repeat last season's 24-goal, 49-point performance, which was aided heavily by an unsustainable 18 percent shooting rate.
Joel Ward RW WAS 6 Months
Ward had an assist and two PIM's in 17:25 of ice time during the Capitals' 1-0 win over Buffalo on Sunday.
Ward played with Jason Chimera and rookie Andre Burakovsky at even-strength. Like Chimera, Ward had a banner year last season. Although the two have great chemistry, it wouldn't be surprising to see his production regress some this season. Keep an eye on him, but he's probably only worth drafting in deeper leagues.

Joel Ward figures the Washington Capitals will need to spend more time studying away from the ice next season since Barry Trotz has taken over as their coach.
"On ice, I expect us to be a lot more detailed, I think," Ward told CSN Washington on Saturday. "You'll get a sense of that right away; there might be some homework at times." Ward expects those assignments will pay off. The forward played his first full NHL season under Trotz with the Nashville Predators in 2008-09. The 35 points (17 goals) Ward scored that season were his career high until he put up 49 (24 goals) for the Capitals last season. Trotz was hired May 26 to replace Adam Oates after Washington failed to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2007.
