Lubomir Visnovsky D NYI 2 Days

Visnovsky notched a power-play assist in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Lightning.

The veteran blueliner has one goal, four assists and a plus-3 rating over 12 games, after his season got off to a delayed start due to a back injury. Visnovsky doesn't quite score at nearly as loft a rate as he did a few seasons ago, but even at age 38, he carries a little more offensive potential than most defensemen.

Visnovsky skated 20:13 in Saturday's win over the Stars. He scored a goal and added an assist.

His ice time will continue to stay above the 20 minute mark as long as his back stays healthy. He can deliver you decent production from the back end if you need help. Just be sure to have a handcuff in the likely event of injury.

Visnovsky (back) doesn't look like he'll play Tuesday versus the Maple Leafs, Daniel Friedman of WFAN reports.

The Islanders suggested after Monday's practice that Visnovsky would be activated from injured reserve Tuesday to make his season debut, but with the defenseman not taking part in the pregame skate, it appears his return to the ice will be pushed back. He'll set his sights on rejoining the lineup Thursday in Boston.

Visnovsky (back) is expected to play in Tuesday's game against the Maple Leafs, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.

The veteran blueliner has yet to suit up this season, but sounds like a safe bet to make his season debut Tuesday. He finished 2013-14 with three goals and eight assists in 24 games, and has been battling through injuries quite often over the last few years.

Visnovsky (back) practiced with the team for the first time in nearly two weeks Thursday, according to Newsday.

Visnovsky also stated that is back if full healed and it's just a matter of him getting into playing condition before he plays in a game. Assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks, Visnovsky should play for the Islanders at some point early next week.

Visnovsky (back) still has yet to return to practice, according to Newsday.

Visnovsky has skated on his own for the last three days but his back still isn't ready for contact. Visnovsky was a sleeper pick for Fantasy owners early in the draft season but due to his inability to stay healthy for any length of time and recent additions to the Islanders blue line, he may not quite be the asset he once was.

Visnovsky (back) is expected to open the season on injured reserve, Newsday's Arthur Staple reports.

The Islanders hoped that Visnovsky would be ready for the beginning of the season, but it turns out he needs more time to recover from his back injury. It remains to be seen when he will be ready to make his regular season debut.

Visnovsky (back) is expected to be ready for opening night on Oct. 10, according to Newsday.

While that's good news, it should also be taken with a grain of salt as Visnovsky has been injury plagued since being traded to the Isles and it would seem unlikely he will go through an entire season without hitting the IR at least once.
