Umberger was let go by the Stars on Wednesday from his professional tryout agreement.
EDGE Analysis
Umberger is facing a second straight year watching the NHL from home after he was unable to land a gig for the 2016-17 campaign as well. With no teams calling -- and the 35-year-old seemingly unwilling to sign overseas -- it may be time for him to consider hanging up his skates.

Umberger will join the Stars at training camp after agreeing to terms on a professional tryout agreement Friday, Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Following the 2015-16 campaign, Umberger was bought out of his contract and was unable to secure another gig. Dallas will give the former first-round pick a shot during training camp after he sat out all last season. At his peak, the 35-year-old recorded 50-plus points three times, but also failed to hit the 20-point threshold in each of his final two seasons. If the Stars think they can get at least 10 goals out of the Pittsburgh native, you have to think they will sign him to a one-year, league-minimum contract.

Umberger, as expected, was bought out by the Flyers and is now on the free agent market.
EDGE Analysis
Philadelphia will save $3 million in cap space by stretching out Umberger's contract through the buyout. The winger has been abysmal since being acquired via trade by the Flyers as he registered a paltry 26 points in his two seasons in the orange and black. The market is certainly dwindling for the 34-year-old, but he may still find a landing spot on a young team looking for an established veteran.

Umberger will be the subject of a contract buyout by the Flyers, Dave Isaac of the Courier-Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
As indicated in the report, Umberger has a no-move clause which gives a player the right to decide whether he'll be placed on waivers as part of the buyout process. Umberger has been swimming in the dough thanks to his signing a five-year, $23 million extension with the Blue Jackets in 2011. He fell out of favor in Columbus and was traded to Philly almost two years ago -- along with a 2015 fourth-round pick -- in exchange for Scott Hartnell. But the 34-year-old was a colossal disappointment in the City of Brotherly Love, recording just 26 points in 106 games and struggling to rebound from a hip injury that required surgery, an issue with his foot, and a few more ailments. The Flyers' decision to buy out Umberger was a no-brainer since he only had one year remaining on that contract and the buyout includes $3 million in savings in 2016-17.

Umberger tallied two assists Tuesday in a 6-3 win over New Jersey.
EDGE Analysis
Hey, look at that -- Umberger's put up two noteworthy efforts in the last four games, with the other one being the match against Buffalo in which he picked up his first goal of the year. It's nice to see, but we can't count on Umberger to keep finding the scoresheet; he's been absolutely atrocious from a fantasy perspective since arriving in Philadelphia last year, totaling 24 points in 103 games.

Umberger finally notched his first goal of the season Thursday, opening the scoring in a 5-1 victory over the Sabres.
EDGE Analysis
Hey, welcome to the season, R.J. A healthy scratch for the last five games, Umberger's played career-low minutes even when he's been in the lineup this year, and the result has been a continuation of his precipitous decline. He certainly looked the part of a goal-scorer, getting into a prime scoring area and blasting a pass from Sam Gagner by a stunned Robin Lehner. It was his first point since Jan. 5, highlighting the rarity of Umberger's latter-day contributions.

Umberger will be a healthy scratch Tuesday night against the Canadiens, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
As noted by Carchidi, Umberger hasn't scored in 50 consecutive games, plus he carried a nine-game pointless streak into the All-Star break. Perhaps his time on the pine will allow him to see the game from a different perspective and come back rejuvenated, but we're not holding our collective breath. Umberger has just nine goals in 99 games since his tenure with the Flyers started in 2014-15.

Umberger has just one point in the eleven games since his return from a foot injury in early December.
EDGE Analysis
Age has perhaps caught up with the fourth-liner, as he's nowhere close to reproducing his 50-point seasons of yesteryear. In 22 games this season, he's produced just five assists and zero goals. His value is negligible in all but the deepest of formats.

Umberger (foot) has fully recovered from his foot injury, Tim Panaccio of CSN Philadelphia reports.
EDGE Analysis
The report also notes that, although Umberger is now healthy, he probably won't immediately draw into the Flyers' lineup, as head coach Dave Hakstol likely won't alter the formula that has led to three consecutive wins for Philadelphia. Once the 33-year-old winger does get the call, he will likely slot into the Flyers' lineup as a bottom-six forward.

Umberger (lower body) skated on a "fifth" line with Ryan White and Vincent Lecavalier during Monday's practice, Bill Meltzer of NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Umberger looks to be nearing a return after skating on an actual line during practice on Monday. However, with that line being outside of the top-12 forward group, Umberger may not be inserted to the lineup right away when he receives the medical all-clear.
