R.J. Umberger was the only member of the Blue Jackets that managed to beat the Oilers Devan Dubnyk in a 3-1 loss to Edmonton Sunday.

R.J. Umberger has just one point in eight games.

So far the most impressive thing about Umberger is he has a team-leading plus-one rating on the struggling Blue Jackets. He will bounce back a bit as the season goes on, but he still isn't worth owning in standard leagues.

It's pretty clear the NHLPA is more unified now that it was in previous negotiations and that fan support seems tilted toward the players this time, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

"(Fan support) was probably on the side of the owners (in 2004-05)," Blue Jackets winger R.J. Umberger told the Dispatch. "A lot needed to be changed about our game back then, and it was changed. The owners got a pretty fair deal on their end. The NHL has done real well the last seven years, and I think that's the difference (with fans). But mostly they just want it to end. They're just crossing their fingers that they can watch hockey. They don't care about the details; they just want their hockey."

R.J. Umberger endured a horrific start to the 2011-12 season before he managed to salvage it a bit at the end.

He scored a mere three goals and added just four assists in the first 24 games of the year. Umberger tallied 13 markers and 20 points in his final 28 contests to reach the 20-goal plateau for a fourth straight campaign. His 18:11 of average ice time was his lowest in four seasons with the Blue Jackets, but with Rick Nash (19:05) gone his minutes should increase. If he can bounce back in 2012-13 then he should get back to the 50-point mark.
