Jonathan Toews C CHI 19 Days

Superstar Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks had to leave a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins Sunday night with an upper-body injury.

Toward the end of the second period, with the Pens holding a 2-1 lead, Toews took control of the puck along the boards when Pittsburgh defenseman Brooks Orpik drilled him. The Chicago captain did not see Orpik coming. Toews, third on the Blackhawks with 68 points (28 goals) in 75 games this season, was holding his arm when he went back to the bench. He eventually went back into the locker room and did not return for the rest of the game, won 4-1 by the Pens. The Blackhawks have already clinched a playoff spot, but they are in a battle for home ice advantage in the first round with the Colorado Avalanche. The Hawks are already without another superstar, Patrick Kane (lower body), who will be out for at least the rest of the regular season. Go here to see a video of the Orpik hit on Toews:

Jonathan Toews powered the Blackhawks over the Penguins with three points in the 5-1 win Saturday night at Soldier Field.

Toews scored twice and had an assist. With snowy conditions that made the ice extremely tough to maneuver on, Toews scored a brilliant first goal that featured his stellar hands on a great stickhandling sequence past Brooks Orpik and forehand-to-backhand shot through Marc-Andre Fleury's five-hole. Toews was also the recipient of a lucky bounce on his second one. The Blackhawks captain has 21 goals and 58 points this season. Bryan Bickell, Patrick Sharp and Kris Versteeg picked up the other markers. Brandon Saad finished a game-high plus-four.

Jonathan Toews is not yet 26 but already has played major roles in two Stanley Cup championships and two Olympic gold medals.

All four, in fact, have come in the past four years. He also boasts gold from two World Juniors and another from the 2007 Worlds. He scored the first goal in Canada's 3-0 triumph over Sweden in Sunday's gold medal match and further cemented himself as one of the defining - if not the defining - winners and crunch-time players of his generation. He was the best player on the biggest stage in Vancouver and remained right up there again this time around in Sochi. "He's a winner," said Team Canada defenseman Alex Pietrangelo. "Resume speaks for itself. Obviously a great leader. Plays the game the right way. Plays the game hard, every practice, every game. Great guy to learn from, great guy to follow."

Jonathan Toews first goal of the Olympics stood up as the winner as Canada defeated Sweden 3-0 to win the Gold Medal.

Canada totally dominated the Swedes as they never sat back, even once they took a 3-0 lead as they kept the pedal to the metal smothering the Swedish attack at every opportunity. It is Toews second straight Gold as he was a member of the 2010 champions as well. Pittsburgh teammates Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz also scored as both their efforts were on turnovers. Shea Weber and Jeff Carter drew assists on Toews's goal. Canada was so powerful during the Games that they never trailed at any point.

Jonathan Toews is excited to renew the Canada-USA rivalry on the international hockey stage.

"It's what it's all about, Canada-USA," he said. "It has become even a bigger rivalry than Canada-Russia. There's a lot of animosity, a lot of feelings like there's something to prove between both teams. It's for the chance to go and play for a gold medal. It doesn't get any better than that, playing for your country and going against the United States. There are millions of kids that grow up dreaming of this." Toews, Duncan Keith and Patrick Sharp will be playing against Chicago teammate Patrick Kane in the semifinal contest on Friday.
