***IN THE SLOT*** OUR PRIMETIME STARS OF THE NIGHT

1. TUUKKA RASK G BOSTON

Rask had big shoes to fill this year with Tim Thomas' decision to not play this season, and he performed admirably with 19 wins, a 2.00 GAA and a .929 SP. He came up big last night with 45 saves against Toronto to give Boston the series lead at 2-1. Rask should be an early pick this fall for goalie option in your league's draft as he is a terrific goalie on a solid team tha can roll out 3 good lines.

2. DAVE KREJCI C BOSTON

3 Months New York Islanders Comment

Tim Thomas' agent says nothing has changed with his client despite the New York Islanders' decision to demote Rick DiPietro.

Thomas is expected to sit out the entire season but was traded to the Isles earlier in February in a financially motivated move. "Nothing's changed," Bill Zito told the Boston Globe. "I got a lot of calls and e-mails last week when (the Islanders) put (Rick) DiPietro on waivers. But nothing's changed with Timmy." Nothing to see here.

Tim Thomas is "comfortable" with the trade to the Islanders, according to Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli.

Thomas is still expected to sit out the season, and though there are rumors that indicate he'd only return to the NHL with the Bruins, he'll have to change his tune there if he does play hockey again, which Chiarelli says he's "contemplating." "I spoke with Tim to make him aware of this trade and he understood. He knew that this was the type of thing that I had talked to him about earlier on in the summer and in the fall, that this could happen," said Chiarelli. "He was comfortable with it and he sounded quite at peace with himself. [It was a] brief conversation, but I just wanted to talk a little bit about Tim because he was an important member of this team."

This is nothing more than a move to get the Islanders to the Salary Cap floor. Don't go and get Thomas off the waiver wire because he still is not going to play this season.

3 Months New York Islanders Comment

The acquisition of Tim Thomas will only cost the New York Islanders a draft pick if he actually reports to them.

In other words, if Thomas doesn't play, the Islanders don't have to give up a second rounder. The question now is if the Islanders will toll his contract in the hope that he decides to play in the 2013-14 campaign. As it is, the odds of Thomas returning this season are slim to none.

The New York Islanders have acquired Tim Thomas in exchange for a conditional second rounder in 2014 or 2015.

The Islanders need to get over the cap floor, so even though Thomas won't play this season, his salary has some value to them. Still, it will be interesting to see if the Islanders toll his contract in the hope that he will play for them in 2013-14.

ONE STAR GOALIE PICKS *

WINNIPEG @ BOSTON

PROBABLE STARTING NETMINDERS: Ondrej Pavelec / Tuukka Rask

ANALYSIS: Based on Game one results, Boston looks primed and ready to start the season. Winnipeg.. not so much. After an impressive home victory over the Rangers, the Bruins look intent on bringing the Stanley Cup back to Boston. Goalie Tuukka Rask has the added confidence of knowing he doesn't have Tim Thomas to steal the starting job away. In addition, Boston has a 10-game winning streak against the Jets at home. Goalie Ondrej Pavelec and his Winnipeg team came out flat in their loss to Ottawa at home, where they usually play their best hockey. Boston should roll in this matchup.
