Subban (illness) will be available for Friday's game against the Kings, John Lu of TSN.ca reports.

The illness kept Subban out of practice a day earlier, but he looked to be fine while skating prior to Friday's morning session. Look for the stalwart defenseman to play close to his usual 25 minutes versus Los Angeles.

Subban sat out Thursday's practice due to flu-like symptoms.

Fantasy owners and the Canadiens alike are hoping that Subban is actually dealing with the flu, and not the mumps virus that has made its way around the league of late. It remains to be seen if Subban will miss any game action due to the illness, so fantasy owners should be sure to keep a close eye on his status.

It was a big effort from Subban, who played a team-high 28:09 against the speedy Avalanche forwards. His season to date has been uneven, but in the end, his young legs are needed on an old defensive corps that averages 32.7 years of age.

Subban's second-period tally snapped a three-game scoring drought and gave him his first goal since Oct. 18. With 10 points through the Habs' first 18 contests, Subban is only slightly off the pace of matching the 53 points he amassed over 82 games in 2013-14.

Subban had an assist in Wednesday night's 2-1 shootout win over the Sabres. It was his third assist in the last four games.

With the Canadiens on a three-game slide, Subban's level of play has drawn attention. Particularly the minus-6 he posted in two lopsided losses to Calgary and Chicago this week. He's back skating with Andre Markov, who also assisted on the team's lone regulation goal, as part of head coach Michel Therrien's moves designed to shakeup the Canadiens.

Subban scored twice Saturday to lift the Canadiens to a 3-2 win over the Avalanche. The first one came on the power play; the second was the game winner.

He also picked up another minor penalty and we're not all that happy with that. He has 14 PIMs in just six games and that would put him on a path toward a massive career increase in that category. He's more valuable on the ice than in the box, so we'll keep an eye on this one. Hopefully it's just an early-season anomaly.
