Chris Stewart RW BUF 2 Months

Chris Stewart is optimistic about the Buffalo Sabres' short-term future.

While the Sabres are in the early stages of a rebuilding effort, Stewart doesn't think it will take the team long to bounce back. At the same time, he realizes he might not be a part of it. "Obviously you're subject to all those trade rumors and all the stuff like that, but that's out of my control," Stewart said. "Like I've said before, as long as I'm a Buffalo Sabre, I'm just going to worry about helping this team win hockey games and that's all that's on my mind." Regardless of who he ends up playing for, he'll be looking to bounce back after recording 26 points and 118 penalty minutes in 63 games in 2013-14.

Stewart was one of several Sabres' players to sustain an injury during Saturday's game. Buffalo will wrap up its season on Sunday.

Chris Stewart left Saturday's contest very early with a lower-body injury.

He logged just 20 seconds of ice time in a 4-1 loss to Boston. Stewart has played in just five games with Buffalo since he was acquired from St. Louis. The Sabres have one match remaining on their 2013-14 schedule and we would assume that Stewart won't be available for it.

Chris Stewart skated on Buffalo's top line with Tyler Ennis and Marcus Foligno on Tuesday night.

He had two penalty minutes and a minus-2 rating in 17:09 of ice time in the Sabres' 4-2 loss to Detroit. It was his first game since Mar. 6 when he suffered an ankle injury.

In a somewhat unexpected twist, Buffalo Sabres winger Chris Stewart is expected to suit up against the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.

While he can be hit-or-miss, he tends to either bring PIM (116) or points (15 goals, 26 points in 60 games played) to the table, making him an intriguing consideration for those in need of last-minute help.

Chris Stewart (ankle) took part in Thursday's morning skate.

"He's way ahead," coach Ted Nolan said of Stewart's recovery. "We thought for sure he wouldn't be touching the ice until mid-summer. That shows you kind of the rehab he's been getting by our medical team." He hasn't played since Mar. 6 because of an ankle injury.

Chris Stewart (ankle) is expected to miss the next four-to-five weeks.

In other words, there's a chance that Stewart will return before the end of the season, but it's a slim one. Given that Buffalo has nothing left to play for, there's no real reason for him to push himself to return before the end of the campaign. He has 26 points and 112 penalty minutes in 60 games this season.

Chris Stewart exited Thursday's match with Tampa Bay in the third period with an undisclosed ailment.

He didn't return after a collision with Lightning goalie Anders Lindback and it's doubtful that he'll be available to play against Florida on Friday night. Stewart had a plus-2 rating and four penalty minutes prior to leaving. He doesn't have a point in two outings with the Sabres.

Chris Stewart plans to make the best of his time in Buffalo, even if it's very brief.

He might be flipped to another team prior to Wednesday's trade deadline after he was acquired by the Sabres on Friday as part of the Ryan Miller deal. "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed at first," Stewart said of being traded. "If you think I'm going to come in here and pout and feel sorry for myself, that's not the kind of person I am. I'm going to make the best of the situation and look at the positive." He has 15 goals, 26 points and 112 penalty minutes in 58 games this campaign.
