Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said after Saturday's game that Stastny (upper body) will not play Sunday against Anaheim, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Jeremy Rutherford reports.

The Blues are calling it an upper-body injury, but Stastny was spotted after the game with his left arm in a sling, so it appears that he is dealing with some type of shoulder ailment. After Sunday, the Blues are off for three straight days before returning to action Thursday against the Canucks.

Stastny left Saturday's game against Arizona with an upper-body injury and will not return, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Jeremy Rutherford reports.

Stastny played just 31 seconds before suffering the injury, the extent of which is not yet known. The Blues have a short turnaround before their next game - Sunday at Anaheim - leaving Stastny's status for that game uncertain.

Stastny (quad) set up three goals in St. Louis' 4-1 win over Calgary on Saturday night. Two of the helpers came on the power play.

Cha-ching -- that was money well spent. Stastny has four points in his first two games and has clearly found chemistry with the Blues' best offensive talents. Use with confidence.

Stastny, who missed Friday's practice with a quad contusion, will be in the lineup Saturday against the Flames, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.

The Blues indicated Friday that Stastny was held out strictly as a precaution, so the quad ailment doesn't figure to inhibit him much, if at all, during Saturday's contest. He's expected to center the second line, with Alex Steen and Joakim Lindstrom flanking him on the wings.

Stastny wasn't present at Friday's practice, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.

It's likely just a maintenance day for Stastny, who was a little beat up after debuting for his hometown team Thursday night. He tallied a goal on three shots over his 17:01 of ice time in the defeat. Expect him to be back on the ice for Saturday's showdown with Calgary.

Stastny will start the year between snipers Alex Steen and Vladimir Tarasenko on the Blues' second line, according to coach Ken Hitchcock, reports Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Stastny will have two highly skilled wingers to finish off the plays he sets up. If this trio meshes they could be a very effective scoring unit.

St. Louis coach Ken Hitchcock likes to remind people the team added more than just Paul Stastny over the summer.

Speaking about the Blues' offseason acquisitions, Hitchcock was quick to compliment the other new members of the team, saying "...it was a combination of (Joakim) Lindstrom, (Jori) Lehtera and Paul. These are three point-producing players who really enhance our hockey club. All three are capable of playing top-six roles. Paul is a real good fit for us with the way he plays and the way we play. Lehtera is a real good fit, and we feel like Lindstrom has really improved his game. He has a number of good friends on the hockey club and he's going to be given a real chance to play in the top nine and see where it goes." It's hard to envision Lindstrom or Lehtera taking on a significant role of the power play for St. Louis, but both could have value in deeper formats.

Paul Stastny will be the third member of his family to play for the St. Louis Blues.

His father, Peter, finished his Hall of Fame career with the Blues in 1994-95 and his older brother, Yan, was in the organization from 2006-2010. "As my family, you always have insight," Paul said. "I was all ears during this process, I always listen to what they have to say. In the end it's my decision and (but) I think they're both excited. Family still lives in St. Louis. They think it's a good decision." GM Doug Armstrong thinks Stastny could work on a line with David Backes and Alex Steen. St. Louis will have some line tinkering to do at training camp.

Paul Stastny's agent didn't want to rule out the possibility of his client re-signing with the Avalanche even as the start of the free agent period looms.

At this point it would be mildly surprising if Stastny re-signed with Colorado. The Avalanche have made it very clear that they want Stastny back, but only if he is willing to sign within their parameters and from the outside looking in, it wouldn't be surprising if they end up getting outbid. Assuming Stastny is still unsigned by noon, he will be one of the top unrestricted free agents on the market.

After a long set of negotiations, the Avalanche and Paul Stastny were unable to reach an agreement on a new contract.

It's been expected all along that Stastny wanted to test the waters as a free agent on July 1st, but the Avs reportedly tried hard to convince him to stay. As one of the top available players on the open market, expect the suitors to be lined up on Tuesday.
