Stajan registered an assist Saturday in a 4-3 overtime victory against the Sharks.

With the emergence of Sean Monahan, Stajan has been pushed out of the top-six center spot. However, a checking-line role may suit Stajan better, as he only has eight points in 27 games and isn't under as much pressure to score.

Stajan potted two goals and won 10 of 18 faceoffs in Friday's loss to the Panthers.

Injuries have limited Stajan to just 24 games this season, but he's otherwise given the Flames some steady play as their checking-line center. Still, it represents a far lesser role than he enjoyed last season with the Flames as a second- or third-line player, which has been reflected in a drop in ice time of nearly seven minutes. The two-goal night amounts to little more than a nice showing for Stajan, who should remain far off the fantasy radar in most formats.

Stajan is expected to serve as a healthy scratch Thursday versus the Sabres, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The expected return of Joe Colborne (wrist) from injured reserve looks like it will cost Stajan a lineup spot, at least for this night. Stajan himself recently returned from a long-term injury, producing one point in the two games since his activation.

Stajan dished an assist Saturday in a 3-2 loss to San Jose, his first game back after missing more than a month.

Stajan had about a point every other game last season, and that is about the maximum output he's going to give. The young guns have taken a lot of the top line spots in Calgary, but Stajan will provide stability to one of the bottom lines.

Stajan skated with the practice group Monday, Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald reports.

Stajan is at the start of the four-to-six-week timetable initially set for his return, and it looks like six weeks will be more accurate. He should get back in the lineup in a few weeks, but needs to start practicing fully again first.

Stajan (knee) is beginning to skate on his own again, the Calgary Herald reports.

Stajan is at least a couple weeks away from playing still, but it's good to see him getting back on the ice. Once he is cleared for contact, he should be close to a return.

Stajan (knee) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 590 The FAN reports.

Initial reports had Stajan missing somewhere between 4-6 weeks, but the Flames are reportedly preparing to be without him until closer to the back end of that timetable. Markus Grandlund was recalled to provide depth at the center position, though Maikel Backlund figures to inherit Stajan's role along the second line.
