Stafford's been off to a cold start this year, and even this two-point night can't add that much luster to his stats. He's now got a goal, five assists and 23 PIM to go with a minus-8 rating in 11 games on the year.

Lining up on the top line alongside Tyler Ennis and Matt Moulson, Stafford will get plenty of opportunities to put up offensive numbers in 2014-15. He picked up a shorthanded assist and an even-strength assist in Saturday's loss. After posting consecutive 50-point seasons in 2010-2011 and 2011-12, Stafford saw his production drop in the following two years. He did score 16 goals last season though, and with top line and top power-play minutes this season, Stafford could return to the 50-point barrier.

Buffalo needs forwards who can score and although Stafford is streaky, he is capable of producing. He is also playing for a new contract, which could motivate him further. Stafford's name has surfaced in trade rumors before, but it wouldn't be surprising if he stuck around.
