Derek Smith (upper body) has been placed on the injured reserve list.

Smith suffered the injury on March 23, and then played on April 1 but has yet to play since. He has no fantasy value with only one assist in 22 games.

I just have to keep it simple. I'm excited to get back."

"It's been a while. A little flustered right now," said Smith. "It's tough. Those guys skate you hard out there. It's not easy, but it's got to be done. The deal is worth $775,000 per season. "Up until the time of his injury he was one of our best and most consistent defensemen," GM Jay Feaster said. "He is a sound two-way hockey player with very good hockey sense, and he has seamlessly fit into the chemistry of our team." Smith has 10 points, 12 penalty minutes and a plus-2 rating in 32 games this season.
