Simmonds scored twice, including once on the power play, in Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Canadiens.

He ended last season on a hot streak and is clearly just continuing the strong play this year. He scored twice within 57 seconds on Thursday night and had a hat trick in Game 6 of the Flyers' first-round playoff series. The two goals Saturday came about 17 minutes apart, but the first one came 18 seconds after a teammate had scored. Use him well.

Simmonds bounced back from Wednesday's quiet season debut to rack up two goals, an assist and a plus-2 rating Thursday in a loss to the Devils.

Simmonds didn't even put a puck on goal Wednesday, but apparently got a lot better overnight. He led the Flyers on a mad charge back from a 3-0 deficit, with his two goals bringing the score to 3-2 and then 3-3, and then he collected the primary assist on Vinny Lecavalier's goal, which tied the game at 4-4. Considering Simmonds' impressive development and heavy power-play usage, it's not at all unreasonable to think he can come close to matching last year's 60-point, 106-PIM campaign.

Simmonds (lower body) was on the ice for morning skate and has been given clearance to play in Wednesday's opener against the Bruins, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Considered probable heading into Wednesday, Simmonds confirmed his availability by taking part in morning skate in full capacity. He had confined to a walking boot briefly last week upon injuring his left foot, but he's not expected to have any limitations against the Bruins.

Simmonds (lower body) practiced with the team Monday, Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News reports.

Simmonds was wearing extra padding on both skates, and while the exact nature of his injury is still unknown, it's encouraging that he was back at practice. There should be an update on his condition prior to the team's season opener Wednesday against the Bruins.

Simmonds' (lower body) availability for Wednesday's regular season opener is "up in the air," Sam Carchidi of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

It's unclear when Simmonds' injury occurred or where it originated, but he couldn't practice Thursday because of it. He led the team in goals last season, and should be in line to contend for that distinction again, though the injury could keep him out of the start of the season.

Simmons is dealing with a lower body injury and is considered day-to-day.

The extent of Simmonds' setback is uncertain, but it prevented him from taking the ice Thursday, according to CSN's Tim Panaccio. It remains to be seen if the setback will threaten Simmonds' availability for the Flyers' season opener.

Simmonds scored a goal in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Rangers.

Simmonds has found himself with two new linemates this season, and this preseason chemistry, albeit against the Rangers' B team, is encouraging. Simmonds' 60 points last season should place in the early rounds of most drafts.

The Philadelphia Flyers tried hard to get the first overall pick from the Florida Panthers last week to take defenseman Aaron Ekblad but balked at giving up tough-nosed, sure-handed winger Wayne Simmonds in the deal.

That's the word from Jim Matheson of The Edmonton Journal, who said Simmonds may be as close to untouchable as there is on the Flyers' roster. Matheson said the Flyers likely were pitching winger Matt Read, and maybe defenseman Luke Schenn or Braydon Coburn in the proposed deal, and the feeling was Florida would have to take Vinny Lecavalier's contract in some form. Panthers defenseman Erik Gubranson would have come back Philly's way, Matheson said.

Wayne Simmonds netted a hat trick to fuel Philadelphia to a season-saving 5-2 victory over the New York Rangers on Tuesday night to force a winner-take-all Game 7 Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.

The Flyers finally came alive with their season on the line, as the Rangers clearly had a firm grasp of momentum through the first five games of the series. Simmonds scored the first, second and fourth Flyer goals of the night, as the home side broke out to a 4-0 lead in the first 40 minutes. The 25 year old has four goals and an assist through six games in the post-season.
