Alexander Semin LW CAR 2 Months

Semin is expected to rejoin the Hurricanes lineup Saturday against the Rangers, Chantel McCabe of FOX Sports Carolinas reports.

Coach Bill Peters reiterated after Friday's game against the Blues that he intended to get all of his healthy scratches back into the lineup for the second half of the team's back-to-back. Semin hasn't endeared himself to the coaching staff nor fantasy owners this season, registering only eight points in 26 games -- a hideous output for a player making $7 million annually.

Semin will be scratched for a third straight game Tuesday against the Lightning, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.

Coach Bill Peters has grown tired of Semin's poor physical condition, which has resulted in horrendous numbers for the $7-million-a-year player. He's been scratched in nine of the past 13 contests and looks like he could be at risk of getting waived.

Semin picked up an assist Saturday and now has a helper in each of his last two games.

Shhhhh ... don't say it out loud for fear you jinx him. He's getting ice time and he seems to like skating with Jeff Skinner. And both men have put up points in that situation. OK, superstitions aside -- fingers crossed this is the start of something, no ANYTHING, from this dud.

Semin (upper body) will not return to the lineup Friday versus the Flyers, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.

Coach Bill Peters said that while Semin has been able to resume skating with the team over the last few days, he still needs to get back to full speed before becoming a lineup option. Expect the Hurricanes to revisit his condition at Saturday's practice before determining if he'll be good to for Sunday's tilt with the Bruins.

Semin (upper body) will remain out of the lineup Wednesday versus the Penguins.

Semin resumed practicing earlier this week, but since he was still skating as an extra at Wednesday's morning skate, it doesn't appear that he's quite ready for a return. After Wednesday's contest, the Hurricanes will have a pair of games over the weekend, which could be a realistic target for Semin's addition to the lineup.

Semin (upper body) is practicing Tuesday, NHL.com's Michael Smith reports.

Semin hasn't played since Dec. 21, but he may have a shot to return for Wednesday's contest in Pittsburgh. He has six points (one goal) in 22 appearances this season, and is averaging just 1.27 shots on goal per game.

Semin (upper body) will not play in Saturday's game against the Lightning.

Semin didn't even travel with the team to Tampa Bay, suggesting he might not be particularly close to a return. Despite the name recognition he carries, savvy fantasy owners probably shouldn't count on him at this point, as injuries and ineffectiveness have diminished most of his value. He's been limited to just 22 games this season and has provided one goal, six points and a minus-9 rating during that time.

Semin (upper body) will miss Tuesday's game against the Jets, Mike Morreale of NHL.com reports.

Semin's absence from practice Monday foreshadowed his unavailability for Tuesday's contest against the Devils. The Hurricanes recalled Brendan Woods on Monday, who will likely draw into the lineup Tuesday in Semin's place. The team has a three-day Christmas break following Tuesday's contest, which could allow him to return for the team's next game Saturday against the Lightning.
