Bobby Ryan RW OTT 6 Days

Ryan (sports hernia) has been participating in informal skates with the Senators in the week leading up to training camp, Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen reports.

Ryan appears to have recovered just fine from the sports hernia surgery he underwent Mar. 27, and should be a full participant in training camp. What's more concerning for Ryan is his long-term future in Ottawa, as he enters the 2014-15 campaign on the final year of a five-year, $25.5 million contract. Ryan and his agents have no plans as of yet to negotiate with the Senators before the regular season begins Oct. 9, so it looks like the winger may have some added incentive to turn in a strong performance. He was mostly a disappointment in his first season in Ottawa, delivering 23 goals and 25 assists over 70 games.

The Ottawa Senators will try to lock up talented forward Bobby Ryan to a long-term contract in the near future.

Pierre Dorion, the Sens' assistant general manager, plans to speak to Ryan's agent this week. Ryan has one year left on his contract but the Sens would like to sign him to an extension so that he won't bolt, or threaten to, after the season. Dorion also is planning the same strategy with Clarke MacArthur, who also would be eligible for free agency after next season. Ryan had 23 goals and 48 points in 70 games for Ottawa in the past season. MacArthur had 21 goals and 55 points in 71 games.

Ottawa forward Bobby Ryan is reportedly recovering well following hernia surgery late in the season.

Ryan's season ended prematurely due to the ailment, but it appears he'll be at full speed once the coming year begins this fall, as he has already been given clearance to begin working out. The talented winger has one year left on his current contract, but may sign an extension to stay with the Senators over the summer.

Bobby Ryan is open to staying with the Senators long term.

"For me, I love it here. We love it here, more importantly. It's been a great change for us," said Ryan referring to his fiancee, Danielle Rhodes. "So, when the time comes, if that's the route [GM] Bryan [Murray] wants to go, we'll sit down and have a conversation, certainly we'll do that." Ryan's contract expires after the 2014-15 season. He had sports hernia surgery last week and will use the summer to heal up for next year.

Bobby Ryan underwent successful sports hernia surgery Thursday.

That's the good news. Of course the bad news is that Ryan won't play again this season. It has come out over the last few days that Ryan had been suffering from the hernia injury since November. Perhaps all of us who criticized his play since being snubbed by the U.S. Olympic selection committee owe Ryan an appology. If he were playing hurt, he should get a bit of slack for his lackluster work the last few months.

Bobby Ryan will miss the remainder of the 2013-14 campaign with a sports hernia.

Ryan will undergo surgery on Thursday. He sustained the injury in November and has been playing through it since. "Both Bobby and our medical staff were hopeful that we could hold off from having surgery until the completion of the season, but he aggravated the condition last Saturday in Dallas to the point that surgery is now the only option," Senators GM Bryan Murray said. Ryan will finish with 23 goals and 48 points in 70 games this season. Look for him to do significantly better in 2014-15.

Bobby Ryan (undisclosed) won't play Monday or Tuesday.

"Ryan will not be available [Monday or Tuesday, at the Florida Panthers]," coach Paul MacLean said. "He has re-aggravated something and right now we are going to keep him out for two games and evaluate him when we get home and make any more determinations after that." He was injured on Saturday when he crashed heavily into the end boards.

Bobby Ryan may have hurt something on his right side after he crashed heavily into the end boards on Saturday afternoon.

The play happened late in the third period. Ryan told coach Paul MacLean that he would be fine, but the Senators bench boss wasn't as sure. "It's kind of something that's up in the air. It's not something that's definite," he said regarding Ryan's status. "It's just a re-aggravation of something, and we'll see how it is Sunday." Ryan hasn't earned a point in his last two outings, but before that he had a goal and three helpers over five contests. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Bobby Ryan is becoming more of a fantasy asset again, although not enough for the Ottawa Senators on Sunday, as they lost 3-1 to the Colorado Avalanche.

Ryan has three points (all assists) in his last five games. In those other two games, he collected 15 combined PIM, so he's been worth starting even when he failed to score. Ottawa needs even more from him, but that's a pleasant sign for fantasy owners.

Bobby Ryan was the only goal scorer for Ottawa in Thursday's 6-1 defeat at the hands of the Red Wings.

Ryan's goal was his 22nd of the campaign, but was far from enough for the struggling Senators. Marc Methot and Mika Zibanejad drew assists on the marker.
