GM/interim coach Lou Lamoriello isn't sure whether Ruutu (illness) will be able to travel to Los Angeles for Wednesday's game against the Kings, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Per the report, both Ruutu and Jaromir Jagr remain under the weather, which clouds the duo's status for Wednesday's contest.

Ruutu didn't practice Sunday due to an illness, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Ruutu hasn't done much offensively this year for the Devils, posting just eight points (five goals, three assists) in 43 games, and averaging just 11:28 of ice time. Since the Devils don't play until Wednesday, it's possible he will be available, but the team should provide an update on his status prior to the game.

Ruutu tallied his fourth goal of the season in Friday's 2-0 win over the Oilers.
The 31-year-old has found ice time hard to come by while he's remained relegated to a bottom-six role this season. His limited ice time (9:22 per game) has unsurprisingly resulted in meager point totals (five in 19 games).

Ruutu will be a healthy scratch Tuesday versus the Rangers.
Ruutu will sit for the first time this season, as Martin Havlat (face) reenters the lineup. Coach Pete DeBoer could alternate Ruutu and Damien Brunner on the checking line for the games to come, with neither player expected to generate much interest in fantasy leagues as a consequence.

Ruutu scored one of four first-period goals for the Devils in their 5-1 demolition of the Panthers on Saturday.
Ruutu got the Devils' offensive avalanche in motion by putting the puck past goalie Roberto Luongo within the game's first three minutes. A two-time 50-point scorer during his prime with the Hurricanes, Ruutu has settled into a bottom-six role for the Devils in his age-31 season. He'll likely struggle to see more than 13 minutes of ice time on a given night, inhibiting his chances of putting up meaningful production.

After scoring the winning goal and also notching an assist in Saturday's victory over Carolina, left wing Tuomo Ruutu had two assists Tuesday.
That gives him one goal and three assists in two games playing on the top line with Travis Zajac and Jaromir Jagr. "I want to be physical and, at the same time, I really want to score goals and try to help the team that way, too," said Ruutu, who was acquired a week ago in a trade with Carolina.

Tuomo Ruutu had two assists in the Devils' 2-1 win over Philadelphia.
That gives Ruutu four points in three games since New Jersey acquired him. He wasn't nearly as effective with Carolina prior to the trade, but Ruutu has meshed well with Travis Zajac and Jaromir Jagr.

Tuomo Ruutu netted the game-winning goal against his former team, the Hurricanes, in the Devils' 5-4 win Saturday night.
Ruutu also had an assist, so he now has six goals and 18 points on the year. All of a sudden, the Devils' puck luck has turned in their favor. New Jersey has scored four or more goals in five of six games since the Olympic break. Still, Ruutu, because of injuries that have sapped some spark from his game, is years away from the days of being a reasonable offensive producer. Adam Henrique picked up two, with Travis Zajac (goal, two helpers), and Damien Brunner scoring the others. Marek Zidlicky registered two helpers.

Only three days after being traded for each other, new Devils left wing Tuomo Ruutu and new Hurricanes center Andrei Loktionov will face their former teammates tonight at Prudential Center.
"It's going to feel weird," Ruutu said. "When I was traded to Carolina [in 2008], we played Chicago almost right after that. So, I've experienced that. It's a weird feeling." This is the second time Loktionov, 23, has been traded in his career. The Devils acquired him from Los Angeles last season. It took until November of this season before Loktionov faced the Kings for the first time, though. "It's unusual because I was just there a couple of days ago and I have to play against them," Loktionov said.
