Purcell scored a goal and dished out a pair of assists in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Stars.

Purcell snapped a three game drought without a point with his highest output of the season as the 29-year-old is up to 17 points (five goals) through 34 games. He'll likely end up somewhere around the 30-point barrier but should only be considered in deeper formats.

Purcell found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season in Wednesday's loss to the Jets.

Purcell took advantage of a Jets turnover to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead in the third period, but it wouldn't hold up as the game-winner after Dustin Byfuglien was able to tie things up for the home squad with three minutes remaining. The 29-year-old has 11 points and a minus-14 rating over 26 games, numbers that probably won't make him worthy of a roster spot outside of deeper formats.

Purcell dished out a pair of assists in Friday's win over the Sabres.

Purcell had gone six games without recording a point, before breaking out for a two-point outburst Friday. Skating on the third line, the 29-year old has managed only four points in his last 12 games. While he does have seven points on the season, his limited ice time and minus-9 rating make him worth a look in only deeper leagues.

Purcell grabbed two assists in Wednesday's 3-2 victory over the Capitals.

His two points came with relatively limited ice time (13:23) and brings the former Lightning's point total to five in seven games this year. If he can find just the right chemistry with one of the Oilers' young stars like Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle or Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Purcell could be a sneaky fantasy commodity this season. Just don't count of much by way of plus/minus, if your league counts it.

Purcell (undisclosed) will be in the lineup Tuesday against the Kings, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.

Purcell was unable to practice Monday after coach Dallas Eakins said the forward was "banged up" over the weekend in the loss to the Canucks, but he was apparently able to shake off his soreness during Tuesday's morning skate. Unfortunately for the Oilers, fellow injured winger Jordan Eberle was not able to heal up in time for the game with the Kings, leaving Purcell to fill his void on the Oilers' top line. Purcell has played well with a goal and two assists in his first two games with Edmonton, but he may be out of his element in matching up against the top trio of the physical Kings.

Purcell (undisclosed) is considered day-to-day but could play Tuesday against the Kings.

Purcell is apparently dealing with an undisclosed minor injury, but he could still play Tuesday against Los Angeles. He registered two assists in Saturday's shootout loss to the Canucks.

Purcell gathered two assists in Saturday's shootout loss to the Canucks.

The Oilers have come away with a loss in their first two games, but it's through no fault of Purcell and his mates on the second power-play unit, who had a hand in both of the Oilers' goals on the man-advantage. Purcell's ice time is down nearly two minutes from what he averaged a season ago with the Lightning, but he doesn't seem headed for a steep offensive regression due to the quality forward depth that he'll skate alongside most nights.

Purcell scored a first-period power-play goal in Thursday's loss to the Flames.

Assuming a third-line role for the Oilers, Purcell managed to tie for the team lead with four shots on goal in his 15:09 of ice time. Coach Dallas Eakins appears content to use Eberle and Yakupov as the right wings of his top two lines, but Purcell should make up for his lower minutes count through his work on an Oilers' power-play unit that is brimming with talent.

Right winger Teddy Purcell said he got "yelled at a lot" for not taking more shots with the Tampa Bay Lightning last season.

He recorded 156 shots in 80 games last season. In 400 career NHL games, he has taken 776 shots. His new teammate in Edmonton, Taylor Hall, has taken 797 shots in only 246 games. But Purcell said it's different with the Oilers than it was with Tampa Bay. "There are lots of guys here who can make plays, so I'll shoot more," he said. Purcell will be either the second- or third-line right-winger, depending on where Nail Yakupov is slotted. "I spoke to Dallas (coach Eakins) the day I got traded, and from what he says, he'll give me lots of opportunities," said Purcell, who was also on the power play in Tampa.Purcell had a breakout year in 2011-12 when he managed 24 goals and 65 points but slumped last season with only 12 goals and 42 points.

Teddy Purcell was caught off-guard by his trade to Edmonton on Sunday.

Purcell seemed to be established in Tampa Bay but obviously that was not the case. "It's a bit of a shock and the phone is blowing up, but other than that it's all good," Purcell said. "Steve (Yzerman) left me a voice mail to call him so I figured something was up. Any time you don't see something coming it's obviously a bit of a shock. Once it digests and sets in, I think it's going to be a good opportunity for me to play some good minutes with a lot of good young guys, so it's going to be exciting. I think it's going to be exciting to play in a hockey crazy market and get a taste of what it's like up there. I think it was good for me to start in places LA and Tampa Bay where the media wasn't so big and the (hockey) markets weren't so big. It allowed me to find my way and become an established player. Now I guess I'm going to see what I'm made of, if I can handle it all. It's a true test of what kind of character you have."
