Tom Wandell has completed his AHL conditioning stint. Wandell has four points in 11 AHL games this season. That stint helped him stay in game shape after spending weeks as a healthy scratch with the Dallas Stars.

Tom Wandell will report to AHL Texas for a two-week conditioning stint. Wandell hasn't played since Jan. 29, so this will prevent him from getting rusty. He has no points and a minus-two rating in seven games this season.

With Jamie Benn still unsigned, Tom Wandell is likely to play on the second line in the Stars' season opener. "We're looking at it the same way we would if he was out of the lineup because of an injury," Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk said of Benn. "This opens up opportunities for other players, and they're going to try to seize them. I just talked to Tommy Wandell, and I haven't seen that kind of look in his eye since I've known him. He's excited about getting the chance to play with Ray Whitney and Michael Ryder." Wandell isn't a bad player to pick up for the weekend, but he isn't expected to have any fantasy value after Benn signs.

It could be Glen Gulutzan messing around with some combinations during training camp, but it's something to keep an eye on, if only for how it affects Whitney and Ryder. Wandell had 15 points in 72 games last season with the Stars.

After some deliberation, the Stars decided to make a qualifying offer to Tom Wandell. The 25-year-old had six goals and 15 points this past season, but some felt he wasn't worth keeping with the newly-acquired center, Cody Eakin, in town. Dallas waited until the last minute to make a decision. Wandell was one of 10 Stars to get offers, headlined by Richard Bachman and Jamie Benn.

The Dallas Stars have not reached a decision on whether or not to tender a qualifying offer to restricted free agent Tom Wandell. The team has already announced offers to eight players, including Jamie Benn, Philip Larsen, Mark Fistric, Richard Bachman, but they will not retain the services of Angelo Esposito, Michael Neal, Mikhail Stefanovich and Jake Hauswirth. Wandell's offer would be just $892,500 so it wouldn't break the bank, but he hasn't made much of an impact at the NHL level during his career with the Stars. He had six goals and nine assists in 72 games last season, while averaging just 9:44 of ice time.
