Gleason signed a professional tryout contract with the Hurricanes on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
With Ryan Murphy day-to-day with a concussion, and James Wisniewski likely out for the season with a torn ACL, the Hurricanes could benefit from some additional depth at defense. The 32-year-old blueliner tallied nine points (one goal, eight assists) in 72 NHL games last season.

Gleason (undisclosed) is practicing Tuesday morning, CSN Mid-Atlantic's Chuck Gormley reports. Gleason dealt with an undisclosed injury earlier in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, and while he's yet to miss a game in the series, he was limited to just 8:10 of ice time in Sunday's Game 6 loss. The Capitals then recalled Nate Schmidt from AHL Hershey on an emergency basis, but it now appears Gleason will likely play in Wednesday's Game 7 against the Rangers. He logged 12-to-15 minutes of ice time in each of the series' first five games.

Coach Barry Trotz said Gleason (undisclosed) will not be in danger of missing Monday's Game 3 against the Rangers, Andrew Gross of The Record reports. The Capitals recalled Nate Schmidt from AHL Hershey on Sunday as insurance in the event Gleason was unavailable, but it appears the move was strictly precautionary. Look for Gleason to see around 15 minutes of ice time on the Capitals' third defensive pairing.

Though Gleason missed a portion of practice on Sunday with an unspecified issue, he is expected to play against the Rangers on Monday, NHL.com reports. "We have a little bit of a situation [with Gleason], but it's minor," coach Barry Trotz noted. "We're just going to be cautious on it." While it sounds as though Gleason will be a go in Monday's Game 3, the Caps recalled fellow defenseman Nate Schmidt in the event that there is a change in Gleason's status.

Gleason (elbow) practiced as part of the third defensive pairing Monday and is expected to return to the lineup Thursday against the Devils, the Washington Post reports. Gleason missed the last two contests because of the elbow issue, but an extended period between games looks to have provided enough of a window for his return Thursday. However, he hasn't been officially confirmed at this point, so it's worth monitoring to make sure nothing comes about in the next few days to derail his return.

Gleason (elbow) will not play in Saturday's game against the Jets, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports. Gleason took the ice for pregame warmups but his elbow apparently wasn't feeling well enough to compete against the Jets. He should be considered day-to-day ahead of Thursday's game against the Devils.
