Minnesota Wild left wing Thomas Vanek is expected to be ready for the start of training camp as he continues to recover from hernia surgery, according to the Star Tribune. Vanek, who underwent a procedure to repair multiple hernias in his left groin in June, has already resumed skating.

Vanek underwent surgery for a sports hernia last week, Michael Russo of the Star Tribune reports.

The injury reportedly bothered Vanek for much of the second half of the season, and wasn't healing on its own, which prompted the Wild to take the surgical route to ensure Vanek will be ready for the start of next season. The recovery time for such a procedure is typically about six weeks, so the Wild expect Vanek to be 100 percent healthy at the start of their training camp in September. He registered 52 points in 80 games for Minnesota this past season.

Vanek picked up two assists in Friday's Game 1 loss to the Blackhawks.

While Vanek is yet to score in these playoffs, he's got three assists in his last three games and is getting his chances, firing three shots on goal in each of his last three outings. While he's currently skating on the third line, he's still playing on the loaded top power-play unit and is capable of going on a big hot streak. If the Wild hope to get past Chicago, Vanek will need to elevate his game and be a difference maker.

Vanek gathered an assist and put three shots on goal in Friday's Game 5 win over the Blues.

It's the second assist of the first round for Vanek, who seems to have lost some momentum since cobbling together an eight-game point streak from March 8 through March 23 during the regular season. He's managed only two goals and three assists over his last 13 games, putting up just 24 shots during that span. Since he doesn't provide much usefulness in the hits or PIM categories, Vanek's value is largely nullified if he's not producing with much consistency.

Vanek (undisclosed) will play Saturday against the Blues.

Vanek was one of three players that missed Thursday's game against the Predators due to a "nagging" injury, but he'll get in one final tune-up Saturday before the postseason commences. The Austrian winger enters the regular-season finale with 21 goals and 51 points across 79 games.

Vanek will miss Thursday's game against the Predators due to an undisclosed "nagging" injury, Chad Graff of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Vanek's removal from the lineup probably has less to do with the injury than it does the fact that the Wild were able to secure a playoff spot earlier this week. Coach Mike Yeo will use Thursday as an opportunity to rest a few of his regulars who are a bit banged up, but all are expected to return to the action for the season finale Saturday against the Blues. With Vanek, Zach Parise, and Nino Niederreiter siting out, Matt Cooke, Sean Bergenheim, and Ryan Carter will draw into the Wild's lineup.

Vanek factored into both of his team's goals, scoring one and assisting on the other in Monday's 2-1 win over the Maple Leafs.

Vanek has been working at an incredible pace in March, recording a point in eight consecutive games -- good for six goals and four assists in that span. The 31-year-old has ridden this stretch to come within a point of the 50-point plateau after what was shaping up to be a disappointing campaign at the beginning of the season. Owners should continue to take advantage while the winger remains sizzling hot.

Vanek tallied a goal, two PIM, and went plus-2 in Saturday's 6-3 thumping of the Blues.

After looking like a free-agent bust for most of his first few months with the Wild, Vanek has really turned it on since February. After finishing that month with nine points, Vanek is on track to surpass that production in March, as he's reeled off five goals and three assists while producing at least one point in seven straight games. His ice time remains curiously low of late -- he's averaging 16:16 for the season, but has failed to eclipse 13:30 in each of the last four games -- but that shouldn't deter fantasy owners from keeping him active and reaping the benefits. It looks like the Austrian winger has found fertile ground with Charlie Coyle and Justin Fontaine on the Wild's third line.

Vanek tallied an assist in Tuesday's win over the Predators on Thursday.

Vanek has surprisingly seen less than 12 minutes of ice time in both of the last two games, but it hasn't prevented him from staying productive for fantasy owners. He's now riding a season-long five-game point streak, during which he's churned out four goals and two assists. The Austrian winger had been unable to get hot at any point prior to March, but he should be an auto-play in most formats now that he's finally beginning to sizzle.
