Varlamov stopped 28 of 30 shots in Saturday's win over the Blackhawks.

And that's all she wrote. Varlamov finishes the season strong, winning two straight games and stopping 68 of 72 shots in that span. While the Avalanche may have missed the playoffs, the 26-year-old goalie put together a strong season, posting a 28-20-8 record with a .921 save percentage and 2.56 GAA. His reliability and consistency will make him a strong fantasy option in the cage once again next season.

Varlamov will be in the crease for Saturday's season finale against the Blackhawks.

Though backup goalie Reto Berra's 41-save shutout of the Jets on Thursday was surely impressive, coach Patrick Roy announced earlier in the week his intention to use Varlamov in the finale, so expect him to stay committed to that plan. Varlamov was superb in his own right his last time out Tuesday against the Predators, stopping 40 of 42 shots, and it was versus these same Blackhawks that the netminder submitted one of the best goalie performances of the season, a 54-save shutout back on Jan. 6.

Varlamov turned away 40 of 42 Nashville shot attempts Tuesday in a 3-2 victory.

Varly's play has been unreliable of late, as he'd given up three goals in five of his last six starts coming into Tuesday's action, but he delivered a big-time game against one of the league's better teams. It's been a tough year for him and the Avs, but with a save mark north of .920 as the season comes to a close, Varlamov's primed to turn things around next year.

Varlamov is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Preds.

Assuming no injuries down the stretch, coach Patrick Roy relayed Monday that the team then plans to turn to Reto Berra on Thursday against the Jets, before Varlamov starts the team's season finale against Chicago on Saturday. Tuesday's foe, the Preds, hold the No. 3 playoff seed in the West, but have lost two straight contests.

Varlamov gave up three goals on 26 shots in Saturday's loss to Los Angeles.

While it wasn't the best night for Varlamov, he didn't get much offensive support, as the Avalanche managed just 10 shots on goal. It was the second straight loss for Varlamov, who falls to 26-20-8 on the season. With the Avs now officially eliminated from playoff contention, Varlamov, who owns a solid .920 save percentage, could be rested in these final few outings.

Varlamov will make his next start in goal Thursday in Los Angeles, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.

Coach Patrick Roy will give the first two starts of the Avs' three-game road trip that begins Wednesday to backup goalie Reto Berra, who has seen scarce work this season behind Varlamov, and in a couple instances, Calvin Pickard. When he hasn't been slowed by groin injuries, Varlamov has just about been an iron man for the Avalanche, and he's beginning to show some chinks in the armor. He's given up exactly three goals in four of his last five starts, while taking a loss to the lowly Oilers in the only start in that stretch where he yielded two tallies. His save percentage stills sits at a robust .921 for the season, but with the Avalanche all but eliminated from the playoff race at this point, it makes sense for the team to rest Varlamov a little more often.

Despite making 32 saves Monday, Varlamov was beaten by the Oilers for the second time in six days in a 4-1 loss. He allowed two goals while the other two were empty-net tallies.

Varly has now lost four of his last five starts, including the aforementioned two to the lowly Oilers. After winning the Central Division last year, the last-place Avs won't be making the playoffs this season, so look for coach Patrick Roy to give Reto Berra a few more looks in the last six games.

Varlamov is slated to start Monday's game against the Oilers, Terry Frei of the Denver Post reports.

Varlamov, who stopped 35 of 38 shots in Saturday's win over the Sabres, will look to rebound Monday from last Wednesday's rough outing against the Oilers, in which he was pulled after giving up three goals on seven shots. Beyond Monday, coach Patrick Roy indicated that the Avs plan to turn to Reto Berra on Wednesday at San Jose.

Varlamov stopped 35 of 38 shots in Saturday's win over Buffalo.

A great bounce-back effort from Varlamov, who had surrendered nine goals in his previous three outings. The 26-year-old advances to 26-18-8 on the season with a .920 save percentage and 2.58 GAA. He's won seven of his last nine games played and has played a whopping 53 games this season, so keep him rolling for these final games down the stretch.

Varlamov will be in the crease for Saturday's game against the Sabres,

Varlamov was given a rare rest Thursday against the Canucks, and though backup Reto Berra was able to lead the Avs back to the win column in impressive fashion, coach Patrick Roy will turn the net back to his No. 1 goalie. While Varlamov has scuffled of late with no wins and exactly three goals allowed in each of his last three games, a matchup with by far the league's worst scoring attack in the Sabres should help the goalie get back on track.
