Ellis (back) will not play in 2022-23, according to Adam Kimelman of NHL.com.
EDGE Analysis

Ellis (back) is expected to miss the entirety of the 2022-23 campaign with what could be a career-threatening injury, NHL.com's Adam Kimelman reports.
EDGE Analysis
When asked about Ellis' injury, general manager Chuck Fletcher said "I know we've been probably vague with describing the injury, I think we've called it multifaceted, which it is. There's a psoas component of this, there's a hip component, there's an adductor component, so I'm not sure that if you go in and repair one part it's going to fix everything we're trying to work with. Trying to get everything back, rehab everything back. I've never heard of an injury like this. It's very complicated. A torn psoas is a very significant injury for a hockey player, a very rare injury, so we're doing the best we can and we'll just leave it up to the medical experts." Ellis was limited to just four games in 2021-22 due to his multi-faceted injury, and it appears as though his NHL future is truly up in the air. The 31-year-old defender has five seasons remaining on his eight-year, $50 million deal.

Ellis (pelvis) remains without a clear recovery timeline, Frank Seravalli of DFO reports Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Ellis was already expected to miss the start of the 2022-23 campaign but this latest news seems even less optimistic for the veteran defender. The Ontario native logged just four games for the Flyers last season and appears no closer to playing in a fifth.

Ellis (pelvis) may not be available for the start of the 2022-23 campaign. Coach John Tortorella told reporters, "If you're asking me right now, I doubt it," Adam Kimelman of NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ellis was originally considered questionable for the start of training camp but it seems his long-term pelvic injury could sideline him even longer. Since being acquired by the Flyers via trade back in July of 2021, the veteran defenseman has logged just four games and should be expected to start the year on long-term injured reserve in order to give the team some cap relief.

Ellis (pelvis) is making improvement during his rehab but remains questionable for the start of training camp, Sam Carchidi of Philly Hockey Now reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ellis played only four games last year due to ongoing issues with the injury, and he remains in the middle of a long rehab process. Barring setbacks, the defenseman isn't expected to be sidelined too long to begin the year. Once he's ready to play, Ellis will likely command a top-four role.

Ellis is dealing with a pelvic injury and is not expected to need surgery this offseason, Sam Carchidi of Philly Hockey Now reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ellis attempted to return to game action too early on Nov. 13 after missing the previous nine games and aggravated the injury, ending his season early. He scored five points in four games, including a pair of power-play assists. Barring any setbacks, Ellis is expecting to return in time for next season's training camp.

Ellis (lower body) is expected to be healthy by the start of next season, per interim head coach Mike Yeo, Sam Carchidi of Philly Hockey Now reports.
EDGE Analysis
Yeo added that Ellis may need to get surgery in the offseason, but the procedure would evidently be relatively minor. The veteran defenseman was limited to four appearances in his first year with the Flyers after being acquired from Nashville in an offseason trade, as Ellis was sidelined from Nov. 13 forward.

Ellis (lower body) will not return during the 2021-22 campaign, Charlie O'Connor of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ellis looked great to begin his first season as a Flyer, racking up five points while averaging 22:48 of ice time through four games before suffering the season-ending injury. The team is still weighing options regarding his treatment but, without a playoff spot to compete for, they're opting to play it on the cautious side. Another update on his status should be available once the Flyers make their decision on a possible surgery.

Ellis (lower body) continues to not make progress in his return from injury, and Sam Carchidi of Philly Hockey Now reports the defenseman's season is likely over.
EDGE Analysis
Ellis produced a goal and four assists in four games but couldn't shake off a lower-body injury, which Carchidi reports is likely a hip or a groin issue. The 31-year-old Ellis was acquired from the Predators in an offseason trade that also involved the Golden Knights receiving Nolan Patrick. Ellis remains under contract for the next five seasons, with the hope being he'll be ready for training camp in September.

Ellis (lower body) has cleared the NHL's COVID-19 protocols but remains out indefinitely. Coach Mike Yeo told reporters, "It's just not making a lot of progress right now," Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
EDGE Analysis
At a minimum, Ellis should probably be expected to miss at least one more week due to his lingering lower-body problem. The 31-year-old defenseman has played in just one game since late October but has registered a point in all four appearances this year. Once cleared to play, Ellis will no doubt resume logging big minutes for the club, including with the man advantage.
