Scuderi was credited with an assist in Tuesday's overtime loss to the Senators.

Scuderi only has nine points in 80 games this season, as he's mostly tasked with shot-blocking duties in front of the Pens' net. Perhaps his greatest attribute this season has been staying healthy, as all of Olli Maatta, Kris Letang, Paul Martin, and Christian Ehrhoff have missed significant time due to injuries.

Scuderi (foot) returned to action Sunday against the Blue Jackets, logging 18:26 of ice time.

Scuderi hurt his foot in the Penguins' previous game against the Capitals last Wednesday, but the team's three-day break in the schedule before Sunday's game afforded him enough recovery time. Christian Ehrhoff sat out Sunday to accommodate Scuderi's placement in the lineup.

Scuderi (foot) participated in Saturday's practice, Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Scuderi had been off the ice since logging 16:47 of action in Wednesday's win over the Penguins, but his return to practice suggests he might be available for the Pens' next game Sunday against the Blue Jackets. The team should have a clearer idea on Scuderi's status before pregame warmups.

Scuderi missed Thursday's practice with a suspected foot injury, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

It sounds like Scuderi might have taken a shot off his foot during Wednesday's win over the Capitals, but the defenseman indicated he's not dealing with a fracture or anything serious. The Penguins will see if Scuderi is able to get in a skate within the next couple of days before determining his status for Sunday's game against the Blue Jackets.

Scuderi registered an assist and went plus-2 in Friday's win over the Flames.

Scuderi has no goals and six assists in 52 games. With no lofty hit, block, or PIM totals to make up for his lack of offense, Scuderi will have difficulty carving out fantasy value in any format.

Scuderi tallied two assists in Pittsburgh's 4-1 win in Minnesota on Tuesday.

The stay-at-home defenseman went out for dinner and came back with his first two helpers of the year. Scuderi, who continues to skate with Simon Despres on the Pens' third pairing, also collected three blocked shots. The 35-year-old is in the second year of a four-year, $13.5 million deal. He's picked up his play after a dismal 2013-14 but has little fantasy value with the possible exception of blocked shots.

Defenseman Rob Scuderi did not enjoy a good season in 2013-14 but the new general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins likes him.

"I know he didn't play as well here last year, but you can't always go, based on one year," he said. "Sometimes, it's one year off, and then they're back on track. He's a key factor in this."

Rob Scuderi has never lost a Game 7.

The Penguins have to hope that trend continues when Pittsburgh hosts the Rangers Tuesday night. Scuderi, 35, has been in three previous Game 7s. "Here's the biggest thing for us right now," Scuderi said. "We need to be confident in the game plan that our coaches give us. That's it. It's important for us to have more faith in the system that's gotten us here."

Coach Dan Bylsma came to the defense of Rob Scuderi after he was criticized by former Penguins blueliner Peter Taglianetti on Twitter.

"Rob has probably played some his best hockey for us in these playoffs and this year," Bylsma said. "It's a fairly unassuming type of role in how he defends and what he does for our team." Taglianetti commented that Scuderi should be moved to the press box, but the current Pittsburgh defender isn't concerned with the comment. "I don't worry about outside influences much," he said. "I just try to do what I know has worked for me in the past and what I think will continue to bring me success."

Rob Scuderi feels that the Pittsburgh Penguins have been lacking passion lately.

The Penguins are 6-6-2 since the Olympic break, but the team hasn't been in any danger of losing their spot as the Metropolitan Division leaders. That might be the reason for their motivational problems, but they need to find a way to stay motivated otherwise they might end up getting upset by a hot Wild Card team that competed hard until the bitter end of the season.
