The Canucks signed Bachman to a two-year deal on Wednesday, NHL.com reports.

Bachman, who went 3-2-0 with a 2.84 GAA and .911 save percentage in seven games with the Oilers last season, gives the Canucks some added netminding depth (to go along with Jacob Markstrom ) behind starter Ryan Miller.

Bachman was reassigned to AHL Oklahoma City on Wednesday.

The move surely wasn't for performance-based reasons, as Bachman has led the Oilers to wins in his last three starts while conceding a total of three goals. He missed some time prior to Tuesday's win over the Kings due to a death in the family, and now he's set to celebrate the miracle of life, as his wife is due to give birth Sunday. With the Oilers' regular season set to end Saturday, assigning Bachman to Oklahoma City will allow him to play in the AHL postseason once he gets back from paternity leave. The Oilers recalled Laurent Brossoit from Oklahoma City to fill out their goalie ranks in place of Bachman.

Bachman, making his return after nearly a week away due to a death in the family, stopped 25 of 27 shots to deliver a 4-2 win over Los Angeles.

That's three straight wins sandwiched around the absence for Bachman, and they've come with about as strong a stretch of netminding -- three total goals in those three games -- as the Oilers have gotten out of their goalies all year long. Don't be terribly surprised if they stick with Bachman for both of the season's final games; after all, what do they have to lose? At this point, the Oilers can neither improve nor worsen their position in the standings, as they're a lock to finish with the NHL's third-worst record.
