Diaz potted a goal in Monday's win over the Stars.

Diaz has held down a regular role on the Flames' blue line during the second half with Ladislav Smid (neck) out for the season, but it hasn't resulted in an uptick in production. The 29-year-old has only two goals and two assists across 55 games.

Diaz was credited with an assist in Tuesday's win over the Sabres.

It's just the second point in 26 games for Diaz, who has been a healthy scratch for roughly half of the Flames' games this season. A return to the press box likely awaits him once Ladislav Smid (undisclosed) returns from injury, and as his point totals would suggest, Diaz has little upside while he retains a lineup spot.

Diaz and the Flames agreed to a one-year deal Monday, Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reports.

Diaz was invited to training camp and parlayed the tryout into a deal worth a reported $700,000. The 28-year-old will likely be one of the lowest guys on the defensive totem pole, but will provide solid depth at that spot on the roster nonetheless.

Diaz has collected three assists in four appearances for the Flames during exhibition play.

Diaz, who signed a professional tryout offer with the Flames prior to camp, has turned heads with his offensive production thus far in camp, putting himself in the conversation for a 23-man roster spot. The 28-year-old bounced between three different organizations last season, but has shown some offensive upside at times during his career. If he ends up making the roster, Diaz could be utilized as a third-pairing player.

The Red Wings have extended Diaz a training camp tryout, but the defenseman has not decided if he will accept it, reports MLive.com.

Diaz played 63 games for three teams last season -- the Habs (46), Canucks (six) and Rangers (11) -- but was also a healthy scratch for 21 games. The Wings are eyeing him because he's a right shot on the back end, but his handlers have told the Wings the defender still has some options on the table and is still weighing what he wants to do.

Raphael Diaz probably won't be New York's lineup for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final on Saturday night.

John Moore is poised to return from his suspension after he missed Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Final and Wednesday's Cup Final opener. Diaz played in Moore's place alongside Kevin Klein in both of those contests. He logged just 10:15 in Game 1 versus Los Angeles.

Raphael Diaz is expected to play in Game 6 on Thursday night.

The Rangers won't have John Moore in the lineup for their next two games because of a suspension, so the former Montreal Canadiens defender will get a chance to play against his old team. Diaz skated in two playoff games for New York during the Pittsburgh series in Round 2.

Raphael Diaz played well in his Ranger debut Saturday against the Devils.

He paired with Kevin Klein in place of the injured John Moore, and held his own in the 16:20 of ice time he received. Most importantly, Diaz did get 4:06 of ice time on the Ranger power play. See how he does Sunday night against Toronto. If he has some success with the man advantage he may worth rostering if Moore's concussion keeps him out of action for a prolonged stretch.

Raphael Diaz will play in his first game with the Rangers on Saturday night.

He'll occupy the left side, which isn't his regular position, with Kevin Klein against New Jersey. Diaz is also expected to see power-play time in the contest. He has 13 points in 52 games with Montreal and Vancouver this season.

Raphael Diaz is projected to be a healthy scratch on Friday.

Diaz was acquired from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a fifth round pick on Wednesday. He will probably make his Rangers debut on Sunday instead.
