Harrold potted his third goal of the season in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Blue Jackets.

A defenseman by trade, Harrold saw some action with the Devils' fourth line with the team electing to scratch Martin Havlat and Michael Ryder. No matter what position he plays, Harrold should be only a minimal source of offense, as he's collected only four points in 34 games this season.

Harrold (face) will remain out of the lineup Thursday against the Bruins, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.

Harrold skated as extra defenseman at Thursday's morning session, signaling that a return might not be far off. It's possible that with the Devils beginning a back-to-back set Thursday, the team's brain trust didn't want an ailing Harrold to play two games in quick succession upon returning to action. He'll have a more realistic chance of suiting up for Friday's showdown with the Islanders.
