Hornqvist played through a broken rib during the NHL playoffs, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Hornqvist, who managed to rack up three points in five playoff games prior the Penguins' recent elimination, will now have a full offseason to heal up and will presumably be 100 percent by the time training camp rolls around. In his first campaign with Pittsburgh, the 28-year-old winger notched 25 goals and 51 points in 64 games.

Hornqvist scored his team's only goal in Wednesday's 2-1 OT loss to the Rangers.

The winger has collected two goals and an assist through four playoff games so far, and will need to continue to produce if the Pens want to survive the upcoming Game 5 in New York.

Hornqvist scored the team's lone goal and recorded a game-high six shots in Monday's Game 3 loss to the Rangers.

It was an all-around productive night for Hornqvist, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback as the Pens fell down 2-1 in both the game and the series. The winger ended the season on a roll with six points in his last seven games and has now tallied two points in the three playoff games thus far.

Hornqvist netted his 25th goal and added a helper against the Sens on Tuesday.

He's got two goals and five points in six games since returning from an undisclosed injury. Along with linemate Sidney Crosby, Hornqvist continues to provide Pittsburgh with its best chance of offense from its forward corps.

Hornqvist (undisclosed) will return to the lineup Saturday against the Coyotes, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

There was some thought that Hornqvist might not be able to return Saturday after he saw only limited involvement in line rushes during Friday's skate, but it looks like the Pens' training staff gave him the go-ahead to play. Making his first appearance since March 15, the winger will slot in on the top line next to Sidney Crosby, bolstering a Penguins attack that has struggled mightily in Hornqvist's and Evgeni Malkin's (lower body) absence.

Hornqvist (undisclosed) practiced with the Penguins on Friday and is being listed as day-to-day, Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Fellow injured top-six forward Evgeni Malkin (lower body) also participated in Friday's session, but seemed to be more involved in line rushes than Hornqvist. That would seem to suggest that Malkin will play Saturday versus the Coyotes and Hornqvist won't, but a ruling of the status on either player won't come until the Penguins check in on their progress overnight. Even if Hornqvist sits out Saturday, he'll still likely have a shot at suiting up for Sunday's tilt with the Sharks.

Hornqvist (undisclosed) won't return to the lineup Thursday against the Hurricanes, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Hornqvist was able to skate Wednesday morning, but isn't far enough along in the recovery process to give it a go Thursday. He'll remain in Pittsburgh while the team travels to Carolina and figures to continue working out on his own in preparation for a return to the lineup over the weekend.

Penguins coach Mike Johnston said Sunday that Hornqvist (undisclosed) is highly unlikely to return for Tuesday's game against the Blues, NHL.com reports.

Hornqvist did not participate in Sunday's practice, while Evgeni Malkin (lower body) was limited. It was previously reported that Hornqvist might be ready by Tuesday, but coach Mike Johnston essentially ruled that out.

Hornqvist (undisclosed) is skating and could return as soon as Tuesday at home against St. Louis, ROOT Sports in Pittsburgh reports.

Hornqvist stayed in Pittsburgh for the team's three-game road trip, which ended in Arizona on Saturday. The forward, who suffered a non-contact injury Sunday, appeared to injure his oblique. The Pens have scored only four goals in three games during Hornqvist's and Evgeni Malkin's absences.
