Backstrom hasn't appeared in a game for the Wild since Jan. 13.

With the Wild hardly secure in their position at the bottom half of the Western Conference playoff picture, coach Mike Yeo has ridden No. 1 netminder Devan Dubnyk with a heavy hand. Dubnyk has made 29 consecutive starts in net and has been dominant in most of those outings, creating little opportunity for Darcy Kuemper or Backstrom to see duty. Even if Yeo does decide to rest Dubnyk one of these days, the starting nod would more than likely go to the younger Kuemper, who fared better than Backstrom prior to Dubnyk's acquisition in January. It wouldn't be surprising if Backstrom didn't see a single appearance -- even in relief -- over the remainder of the season.

Backstrom is feeling ill and will not practice Tuesday, Mike Vogel of washingtoncaps.com reports.

Backstrom will likely just be day-to-day ahead of Wednesday's matchup with the Rangers. He stuck around team facilities to receive treatment from the training staff, indicating that the illness isn't all that serious.

Backstrom's new teammate, Devan Dubnyk will start Thursday's game against the Sabres.

Backstrom had previously been on track to start the contest, but the Wild have instead elected to roll with Dubnyk on Thursday, as the team tries to snap out of an 0-5-1 slide.

Backstrom gave up six goals on 35 shots in Monday's 7-2 loss to Pittsburgh. He was replaced in the third period by John Curry. Despite the poor outing, head coach Mike Yeo said Backstrom will start Thursday against Buffalo, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Backstrom didn't get much help from the defense in front of him, but he didn't respond well and missed some save chances. With Darcy Kuemper out with a lower body injury, Josh Harding out indifinetely with a multiple sclerosis setback and Yeo not having much confidence in Curry, it looks like Backstrom will get several more starts to work his way out of a slump (three or more goals allowed in ten consecutive starts).

Backstrom will get the start in net Tuesday against the Penguins.

With Darcy Kuemper still recovering from a lower body injury, Backstrom will get the start between the pipes for the fourth consecutive game Tuesday against Pittsburgh. Backstrom is 5-6-3 on the season with a 2.83 GAA and a .892 save percentage.

Backstrom allowed four goals on 35 shots in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Blackhawks.

Backstrom has now allowed three or more goals in all four appearances, three starts, since starting goalie Darcy Kuemper went down with an injury, all of which were losses. The 36-year-old has been shaky all year and hasn't allowed two or fewer goals in any appearance since Dec. 5. With a 2.83 GAA and .892 save percentage, Backstrom won't be of much value to most fantasy teams even if Kuemper is out for an extended period of time.

Backstrom will start in net against Chicago on Sunday, Chad Graff of the Pioneer Press reports.

Backstrom is coming off a 3-1 loss to the Predators on Saturday. He'll be looking for his sixth win of the season against the Blackhawks while carrying in a disappointing .893 save percentage.

Backstrom allowed three goals on 24 shots in Saturday afternoon's 3-1 loss to the visiting Predators.

This was the third straight game Backstrom has allowed three goals, and considering the nine tallies came on just 60 shots (.850 save percentage), it's no surprise that the Wild were winless in all three. The goaltending situation in St. Paul is a disaster to say the least, with Darcy Kuemper currently shelved with a lower-body issue (he wasn't playing well anyway) and Backstrom not being able to even remotely come close to stealing a game for the struggling Wild. With that being said, don't be shocked to see the recently recalled John Curry get another look in net, perhaps as soon as Sunday against the high-flying Blackhawks in what would be his second start of the season.

Backstrom will be in the crease for Saturday's game against the Predators, Eric Stromgren of The Tennessean reports.

Backstrom will be the Wild's No. 1 goalie for at least a week with Darcy Kuemper (lower body) on injured reserve. With a 2.73 GAA and .893 save percentage over 16 outings, Backstrom doesn't look to be capable even by the standards of a No. 2 goalie. He'll probably need a top-flight performance from his offense Saturday in order to get the win over the Preds, who will start Vezina Trophy contender Pekka Rinne in the net.

Backstrom, making his first start of what should be semi-regular action in the near future with Darcy Kuemper (shoulder) hurt, stopped only 16 of 19 shots in a 4-2 loss Thursday against the Blackhawks.

Kuemper's practice injury landed him on IR, and now Backstrom likely has a week or so of starting ahead of him, though John Curry could get a shot too. The Finnish veteran's had a poor season, and it's been particularly rough lately, as he's given up 23 goals in his last seven starts and has a save percentage north of .900 exactly zero times in that span.
