The Coyotes acquired Grossman and Chris Pronger's contract in exchange for Sam Gagner on Saturday, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.

The Coyotes were extremely thin at defense, so making a move for a proven defender like Grossmann in the offseason was somewhat of a necessity. Unfortunately, they had to give up Gagner in order to bolster their defensive core. His offensive production will be hard to replace, but Arizona will hope that an improved defensive group will more than make up for any decrease in scoring the team might experience in 2015-16. Grossmann is a solid NHL defender, but lacks offensive skill, so don't expect too much from the 30-year-old in terms of fantasy relevance.

Grossmann recorded an assist and two PIM in Tuesday's win over the Islanders.

Grossmann and defensive partner Mark Streit combined for four helpers on the evening, though Streit did most of the heavy lifting offensively, as he usually does. With a respectable 126 hits and 87 blocks over his 66 games, Grossmann typically focuses his efforts on protecting the crease in front of goalie Steve Mason, which limits his output on the other end of the ice. The blueliner has only five goals and 14 points on the season.

Grossmann (upper body) could return for Tuesday's game against the Stars, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

According to general manager Ron Hextall, Grossmann has only an outside chance to return Tuesday, but the outlook is much more likely for Thursday's game against the Blues. Carlo Colaiacovo should continue to fill in on the third defensive pairing if Grossmann is forced out of another contest.

Grossmann (upper body) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Blues, Randy Miller of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.

Coach Craig Berube wasn't willing to rule Grossmann out from playing over the weekend, but he didn't seem optimistic that the defenseman would be available for either of the team's games Saturday or Sunday. Carlo Colaiacovo is slated to fill Grossmann's spot on the Flyers' third defensive pairing.

Grossmann (upper body) is doubtful for Tuesday's game against the Flames, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Barring a positive turn in the next day, it looks like the soonest we'll see Grossmann suit up for the Flyers again is Thursday against the Blues.

Updating an earlier report, Grossman was struck in the head, not the shoulder, by a puck, according to the Associated Press. He was helped off the ice and did not return.

He was hit while attempting to block Rick Nash's shot with 15:19 left in the second period. God speed, young man. #frightening.

Grossman left Saturday's game with an apparent leg injury, Newsday's Steve Zipay reports.

He was laying face down on the ice after getting hit by a puck and was then helped off. It is not clear what the exact nature of the injury is, but for now owners should consider him day-to-day.

Grossmann (shoulder) was activated from injured reserve and will play Thursday against the Islanders.

He's set to play for the first time since Jan. 8, joining Andrew MacDonald on the Flyers' third pairing. Grossmann hasn't shown much game on the offensive end this season (three goals, five assists in 41 games), but has compiled nearly two hits and over one block per contest.
