Fayne (shoulder) will not play Thursday against the Sharks, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.

Fayne rotated in on a defensive pairing during the Oilers' practice Wednesday, but he's still not quite healthy enough to rejoin the lineup. It doesn't sound like the Oilers have shut him down for good yet, so Fayne's last opportunity to play will come in Saturday's finale against the Canucks.

Fayne (shoulder) will not play Tuesday against the Kings.

Fayne resumed practicing Monday and appears close to a return, but he'll be forced to sit out a sixth straight game Tuesday. With another positive on-ice session Wednesday or Thursday morning, he could be cleared to play Thursday night against the Sharks.

Fayne (shoulder) was a participant during Saturday's morning skate, but won't play later in the evening against the Flames, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.

Though the Oilers have little left to play for this season, it doesn't appear that they'll be shutting down Fayne. The blueliner will likely attempt to take contact in the next couple of days, and if all goes well, he could play again at some point next week.

Fayne (shoulder) will likely return to the Oilers before the end of the season, Reid Wilkins of 630 CHED radio reports.

Fayne's shoulder injury wasn't originally believed to be particularly serious, however, the fact that the team is noting that he should be available at some point before the end of the season is a bit disconcerting. The Oilers should provide some more clarity regarding Fayne's status in the coming days.

Fayne (shoulder) will not play Friday against the Stars.

Neither Fayne nor Matt Hendricks (back) will be available Friday after leaving Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Avalanche with the injuries. The Oilers called up Brandon Davidson from AHL Oklahoma City on Thursday to cover for the absence of Fayne, who has compiled eight points and a minus-21 rating over 74 games this season.

Fayne suffered a shoulder injury Wednesday against the Avalanche and will not return to the contest.

With Fayne on the shelf, the Oilers may have to look for a replacement option on their third defensive pairing. He'll likely be a game time call for for Friday's showdown with the Stars.

Fayne tallied his second goal of the season in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Senators.Fayne cut the Oilers' deficit to one with the second period tally, but things would quickly go downhill for Edmonton thereafter. The blueliner's minus-17 rating on the season is mostly a byproduct of his team's defensive ineptitude, but he's not exactly delivering much value offensively, either. He's recorded just seven points in 57 games.

Fayne contributed an assist, two penalty minutes and six blocked shots in his 18:10 of ice time Monday against the Canadiens.

After a rocky start to the season defensively for the Oilers, Fayne has helped right the ship on the blue line for Edmonton, just as the team hoped he would when they inked him to a four-year deal in the offseason. Fayne isn't an especially prolific puck-mover and figures to fall short of 20 points on the season, but so long as he proves consistently competent in defending his own zone, the Oilers will be pleased with anything he chips in offensively.

Defensive defenseman Mark Fayne is excited that he has jumped from the New Jersey Devils to Edmonton because the Oilers are in the West and the West features bigger forwards.

"The tougher thing for me is playing against the smaller, fast guys, but I'm actually looking forward to the West," Fayne said. "My style and build (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) might be better against the bigger guys." He was referring to West forwards such as Anze Kopitar, Ryan Getzlaf, Joe Thornton, David Backes and Jonathan Toews. Fayne had 11 points with the Devils last season.
