Jokinen will bring his professional career to a close, his team announced Wednesday.

Jokinen has spent the past three seasons playing overseas in Finland for Karpat for which he came up through the youth ranks. Prior to his return home, the 38-year-old center logged 951 games in the NHL for nine different organizations, none more so than with the Hurricanes. Along the way, Jokinen registered 191 goals and 372 assists plus another 32 points in 54 postseason contests, though he was never able to lift Lord Stanley's chalice.

Jokinen signed a contract with Oulun Karpat of the Finnish League for the remainder of the 2018-19 season.

EDGE Analysis

The 35-year-old had been playing in Switzerland before agreeing to return to Oulun Karpat, the team he played for during the lockout. It's safe to say at this point that Jokinen's days in the NHL are over.

Jokinen was released from his professional tryout agreement with the Red Wings on Sunday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

The Wings saw a number of veteran defenseman sustain injuries late in the preseason, and Jokinen was a no-brainer drop since the club has an array of proven scoring options available. Given his journeyman status, Jokinen should find another suitor before long.

Jokinen signed a PTO with the Red Wings on Monday, according to a post on his Instagram.

EDGE Analysis

Jokinen was a bit of a wandering soul last season, as he played for four different teams. In total, he only managed 17 points, and the 35-year-old has seen better days. The Finn will try and stick with a Wings team that could have room for a veteran forward, but it wouldn't be surprising if Jokinen doesn't end up with a contract. Detroit is rebuilding, so it may prefer giving a spot to a young player.

Jokinen spent his 2017-18 campaign with four different teams.

EDGE Analysis

Jokinen started the season with Edmonton, was traded to Los Angeles, then he was waived and claimed by Columbus, and he landed in Vancouver at the trade deadline. This suitcase season amounted to five goals and 17 points in a total of 60 games. The 35-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and hopefully he'll find some stability.

Jokinen scored a goal and added two assists in a 5-4 OT win over the Blue Jackets.

EDGE Analysis

Jokinen has six points (one goal, five assists) in his last four games. He's playing for his fourth team this season and he's been his most productive for Vancouver. Jokinen has eight points (three goals, five assists) in 11 games as a Canuck and may be a viable fantasy producer in the next handful of games.

Jokinen was traded to the Canucks along with Tyler Motte in exchange for Thomas Vanek on Monday, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.

EDGE Analysis

Jokinen will join his fourth team this season, having previously spent time with Los Angeles, Edmonton and Columbus. Playing in a combined 46 games, the Finn notched one goal, six helpers and 54 shots. The winger was clearly on his way out the door anyway, as the Blue Jackets waived him Sunday, but will at least provide some return for Vancouver.

Jokinen was placed on waivers by Columbus on Sunday, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic Cleveland reports.

EDGE Analysis

With Columbus acquiring Mark Letestu, Jokinen's presence was deemed to be no longer necessary. The 34-year-old has only posted seven points (one goal, six assists) in 46 games this season, but could be claimed by a playoff team looking for veteran leadership.

Jokinen picked up an assist while adding three shots and a hit in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the islanders.

EDGE Analysis

It was his first point in six games since coming over to the Jackets on waivers in mid-January. Jokinen's spot on the fourth line doesn't afford him many scoring opportunities, however, and even though he had a 60-point campaign as recently as 2015-16 with Florida, the 34-year-old should remain a fantasy afterthought in Columbus.

Jokinen recorded two shots through 15:14 of ice time during Thursday's 2-1 shootout win over Dallas.

EDGE Analysis

The Finn was claimed off waivers from Los Angeles on Wednesday, and he's now playing with his third team this season. It's obviously been a discouraging few months, but Jokinen shouldn't be written off just yet. He skated primarily with Nick Foligno and Matt Calvert during Thursday's game, and while that isn't a favorable fantasy assignment, Jokinen is definitely still a player to watch in deeper settings.
