On Monday, Gorges took to Twitter and Instagram to officially announce his retirement from hockey.
EDGE Analysis
Gorges, 34, will hang up the skates after suiting up in 783 NHL games. Not known for his offensive contributions, the feisty blueliner will end his pro career having tallied 124 points as a member of three different teams over a 13-year career. The veteran blueliner does not have any plans to play overseas and calls Monday's decision " his retirement from the game of hockey". Gorges played 34 games in Buffalo a season ago, registering a pair of assists as a member of the Sabres.

Gorges pitched in two points in 34 games throughout 2017-18, while averaging 14:56 of ice time and securing 69 hits.
EDGE Analysis
During the beginning of the season Gorges battled a lower-body injury which kept him sidelined for nine games, but even when he returned, he was in rotation between the press box and lineup throughout much of the year. The British Columbia native's 14:56 of playing time was the lowest of his career as well, and it seems that his days of going 20 or more minutes a night are fading. The two tallies were also a career low, but the limited played games and minutes were certainly factors. Gorges is set to be an unrestricted free agent, although he might need to take a pay cut from the $3.9 million he was payed this season if he wants to return.

Gorges will play against the Habs on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Gorges returns to the lineup to face his former team after sitting out the past four games as a healthy scratch. The veteran defender has played just 30 games this season, and his plodding, stay-at-home style of play just isn't effective anymore in a league that's gotten faster and faster. Gorges will be an unrestricted free agent this summer and it's highly unlikely he'll be re-signed. Gorges can still be an effective shot blocker but he's unlikely to contribute in any other fantasy categories.

Gorges (illness) wasn't listed on the Sabres' injury report Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Gorges will have to wait until Tuesday's game against the Devils for a chance to suit up, but he's often a healthy scratch so it won't be a surprise if he remains sidelined. His value for the Sabres recently went up with the news of Zach Bogosian's season-ending hip injury, though, so Gorges could slot into more lineups after the break.

Gorges (illness) will miss a third straight game Thursday against Vancouver.
EDGE Analysis
Gorges resumed skating Thursday, but he's evidently still not feeling well enough to return to game action. Either way, fantasy owners shouldn't need to keep tabs on the veteran blueliner's status, as his lack of offensive production -- two assists in 22 games this campaign -- keeps him from being a viable option in season-long and daily formats.

Gorges will miss Monday's game against the Flames with an illness.
EDGE Analysis
Gorges only has two assist in 22 games, so the Sabres, and fantasy owners, likely won't miss him. That's especially true since Nathan Beaulieu is returning to action Monday. It's effectively a straight swap.

Gorges skated as the seventh defenseman Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Gorges played 15:15 at the Winter Classic and registered two hits and a blocked shot after sitting out the previous two games. It looks like he'll be the odd-man out again Thursday against Minnesota, with Justin Falk drawing into the lineup instead. Gorges' lack of speed is hurting his ability to keep up and be effective, and at this point of his career is nothing more than a third-pairing defenseman.

Gorges will return to the lineup Saturday night against the Penguins.
EDGE Analysis
Gorges reportedly will replace Victor Antipin, as coach Phil Housley looks to bring a more physical defender in against the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions. Still, there's nothing to look at here from a fantasy perspective, as Gorges has been held without a point through 11 games.

Gorges will be in the lineup versus the Canadiens on Saturday, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's been a long time coming for Gorges due to a lower-body injury that shelved him for nine straight contests. He'll reportedly sub in for Victor Antipin in the upcoming game, adding a physical, shot-blocking presence in front of designated goalie starter Chad Johnson.

Gorges (lower body) has been cleared to play, but he won't be in the lineup for Friday's game against the Panthers.
EDGE Analysis
Gorges was a healthy scratch for the Sabres' first three games of the campaign, so it's not exactly surprising to see head coach Phil Housley rolling with alternative options at defense Friday. The 33-year-old blueliner's next opportunity to return to the lineup will come Saturday against Montreal.
