Ryan Getzlaf has agreed to an eight-year extension with the Anaheim Ducks.
The deal will take Getzlaf, 27, through the 2020-21 campaign. The financial details of the contract were not disclosed by Anaheim. Getzlaf would have been an unrestricted free agent this summer, so this is a huge victory for Anaheim. Getzlaf is their captain and one of their key offensive pieces. He has nine goals and 27 points in 22 games this season and likely would have been able to named his price on the open market. With Getzlaf signed, the Ducks will likely turn their attention to Corey Perry, who is also scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
